I keep trying to bring you the unusual whenever possible and for fans of the Yashica T AF, well, this is wholly appropriate... Yashica T FanThere's not much to say really other than during this hot summer, this is a welcome addition to Yashica's oddities. I'm assuming it dates from 1985.

Huzzah! Finally, a 20cm Shiga figure (for a sensible price!)... The 3 ShigasI managed to grab the big boy in the middle from a delightful UK seller on Ebay yesterday and he arrived today; impressive service! So, here we have a 10cm, 14cm and 20cm trio of politically incorrect dolls from the early 1960s. Well, how else would you describe someone that is winking at you while almost pulling up his trousers and wearing a sailor suit?? I'd love to have heard the rationale from the Yashica marketing executive as to why a doll, exposing part of his rear-end, while winking at you would be wholly appropriate for a top camera brand... Too much sake drinking...? Anyhow, the Shiga figures are great fun and it's very pleasing to have this saucy trio peering out from among the cameras on the shelves. They always generate comment when friends visit...

Well, here's another unusual item - some 40 year-old Italian Contax bling...
Italian Anniversary 57mm Gold ShieldAs you can see, it celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Contax. This delightful gold-coloured medallion has a 3-D rendering of a Contax 139 camera and can double as a 57mm lens cap!

Now that is some major in-your-face jewelry! It certainly takes the Canon 1980 Olympics lens cap down a few dozen notches as a notable commemorative accessory.

Well, here we have another weird promotion by Yashica from 1974: a dart board and set of darts... Once more, one suspects the sake was flowing freely in the marketing department... Electro 35 GL Darts PromotionAnd what, you might well ask, was this unusual Yashica item intended to promote? Well, it was the Electro 35 GL - a short-lived but delightful model that was to give way to the more common GX. Why darts? I have absolutely no idea. The dart-board is reversible with a more simple game on the back consisting of circles of increasing value as you move towards the bull; it is shown on the cardboard box against which the board is resting. Towards the bottom of the box is the Electro 35 GL logo. Each board came with a set of 3 darts; the reason you can see 6 of them in the photo is that I was able to buy two of the promotional sets.

I'd like the first ticket when you open the "The Wonderful World of Yashica" Museum Hi Bob, consider yourself first in the queue though I suspect the name might be extended to: 'The Weird & Wonderful World of Yashica Museum'... The great thing about dear old Yashica is that just when you think you've seen everything, they come up with something else which defies common sense, good taste or logic...marvellous!

This we can assume was a dealer reward. Contax tie-clip It's beautifully presented in a royal-blue velvet covered box which in turn is housed in a black outer box featuring the classic Contax logo in silver. The design of the clip is rather more sophisticated than simply using the common crocodile-grip. This one employs a cantilevered, sprung grip which ensures the clip lies flat on the tie and will not mark it. It dates from 1981 and as far as I can determine, has never been used. I'd not seen this design before but you'd have to suspect that dozens would have been made.

... The design of the clip is rather more sophisticated than simply using the common crocodile-grip. This one employs a cantilevered, sprung grip which ensures the clip lies flat on the tie and will not mark it. In my early days of wearing ties for work - when they were more or less mandatory - I had several of these same types with the extra mini-chain attached. Those that had a 'loop' at the end, like this one, were meant to slip over shirt-front buttons, or when they had a 2nd mini-clip, they'd slip over the shirt edging like paper clips. In situations where a dangling tie could present either a minor issue of being soiled or in contaminating food (waiters or food prep workers), up to extreme issues like getting ties caught up in machinery or hanging into fire (i.e., bunsen burners) or nasty chemicals, these kept the tie close to the wearer's body and out of harm's way. Although they may not be necessary for camera counter helpers, I'd presume they also just served as a way to control wayward ties for fastidious dressers and fashion conscious wearers. In my case, my first ever job in the mid 1960's was working the counter in a deli serving food and using a giant meat slicer, so..... :)

Now that the silver version has arrived, it's good to have both examples of Italy's Contax' 50th Anniversary shields/lens caps... Contax 50th Anniversary caps

Not sure if this could be considered as a novelty or as an original accessory... now I wonder... if it comes as part of the camera kit then it is an accessory?... even if it has nothing to do or not helping at all with the "taking pictures" part?. Anyway, I found it while browsing the yashicasailorboy.com site: Yashica AM Receiver MF-2SThe full original article and more pictures can be found here: yashicasailorboy.com/2023/01/10/yashica-mf-2-super-dx-with-am-radio/

Hi Ariel Chris' site is a very useful source of Yashica material and I remember when he added the camera and receiver to his shop. Those receivers appear on eBay from time to time but are more commonly found on Japanese websites. They are only compatible with the MF-2 Super - not the MF-2. It was another of those sake-induced odd ideas to which both Yashica and Kyocera seemed prone. Still, nothing wrong with listening to the radio while taking piccies...

Checking the latest listings at one of the UK's best photographic auctioneers, there is a GEC Transistor Radio which has an integral Kodak Instamatic camera! You couldn't make it up...
