This delightful version of the 107 MP arrived this evening: the TR7000 Multi ProgramTR7000_50 f1.7 PlanarIt rarely makes an appearance in Europe but does anyone know why Kyocera decided to give it such an un-Yashica model number? What does the TR and 7000 refer to - if anything? Anyhow, it's got a nice specification and all seems to be working so I suppose it doesn't really matter how it came to its name. But I can't help being curious when it's so unlike any other Yashica SLR model name.

A guess... Since this has 3 'models' (Yashica 107 Multi Program, Yashica TR7000 MP, and Revue AC7) it might be that they were destined for 3 different markets, and there may have been a name conflict or some (real or perceived) trademark issue(s), depending on what market region they were going to. Canon might have been unhappy with the "Multi Program' part of the name, like Leica was with the "M3" Minister model, and nobody wanted to push their luck again. The Revue name would have been in keeping with the "AC" series of body names they were already using, so that wouldn't come into it.
Or... The TR 7000 could have been the internal project name, and they decided not to change it for at least one sales region that it was bound for...
There was also the 108 and 109 MP versions too, but at least there were no Revue rebrands for them, that I'm aware of - but I'm not sure if there were additional models like the TR7000 for those later versions.
(Yes, I am spending way too much time indoors)

Didn't this come out around the same time of Minolta's 5000-7000-9000 series models? A bit of copy-cat marketing?

There was indeed a Revue version of the 108MP, it was called the Revue AC8 (1989). Various images easy to find by internet search. There was also another less known variant of the 108MP ... the Yashica FX-80 MP (1990). As an aside, there was the wonderful Stereo 108MP created by RBT (also did a Stereo 109MP too) Back to the 107MP ...... I list some other variants apart from the Revue AC7 and the TR7000. There were the oddly named FX-8 MP (1990) and FX-800 Super (1990?) and the Daewoo 107MP (1989?). There could be even more out there . Sorry, couldn't find any odd colour variants this time, but there are see-through versions of the 107MP out there somewhere! FX-80MP Stereo RBT 108MP FX-8MP FX-800 Super Daewoo 107MP and lastly ... Yashica 107MP in glorious see-through

Wow!
Thanks bobblehat.
I had no idea that there was a FX-8MP, FX-80MP or FX-800 Super.
I wonder what their specs were? It's interesting to note that the speed selector dial on the FX-800 Super has an auto setting simply marked AV instead of the three-way HP, Program, LP found on the 107 or HP, Program, AV found on the 108 and 109 models.

Sorry Graham, I can't find any info on the FX-800 Super! Internet says it's "China only", and I can't even find the email that I usually keep giving me permission to use the image ... mind you it was probably back in c.2005, so must keep looking. I take it people already know about the Yodobashi 30th Anniversary Edition 108MP?

... I take it people already know about the Yodobashi 30th Anniversary Edition 108MP? It occurs to me that the more I learn, the more certain I am of how little I know... but sadly the short answer is, no. From a brief browse of their site, I assume they're kind of like a Japanese Walmart or something similar. It astounds me that when Yashica was humming away at it's highest point, much of the world only saw it's own local view of the company, and so many things went unknown to the rest of the world before the web cracked open the globe. I certainly missed the Revue models existance, and quite a few more to boot. Thank you bobblehat , for your revelations... I know a list that needs some serious updating! I've seen the stereo 108MP before, since they pop up on ebay from time to time, but I was unaware of the intriguing transparent 107, and I'm totally surprised by the Daewoo model. That's a brand that my brain associates with cars, and not cameras.
