Just saw a Yashica FX-D Quartz camera for sale including the original box and some accessories, among them there is one that got my attention: a tripod spacer with its own user's manual . Never expected such accessory to exist. As long as I can read from instructions, the reason for the spacer is to prevent this: "Depending on the tripod you use, the aperture ring of certain lenses may hit against the tripod mount."

They were a common accessory with a number of Yashica and Contax SLRs and very handy when using larger diameter lenses. They were also useful in protecting the camera's base-plate from the markings often caused by the use of tripods.

I've got a couple of them at least, and one came with the instruction sheet. It was a handy accessory I used on several cameras.

It is curious and interesting, at least for me, to see that such basic thing was/is an important accessory but not so easy to find information about it on the net, and if I search for new ones there is nothing similar in its simplicity, the most common one is from Manfrotto but bigger and with double screw, I have a similar one that my uncle hand made many years ago.
Do you know if the spacer from Yashica was sold as independent accessory or only provided with new cameras?

I have not found any reference to it in Yashica literature so I assume it was only provided with certain new cameras. I also remember that my Contax 159MM came with one.

I would think these came with the camera, much like the straps, strap lugs, and PC flash plugs did. I didn't receive one with the new FR I bought, but then, it still used the deeper tripod socket. These were targeted for the newer and shorter 'compact' SLR bodies that had the shallower mounting holes, like the FX-D, FX-103, 159MM, 167MT.
They did have the side effect of protecting the finish on the bottom plate - especially when there was a spring-loaded locating pin involved - but also they elevated the camera by the 2mm or so difference in the length of the tripod or quick release screws in use on 'older' tripod models, so there was more than one benefit from using them.

Well... finally I got the FX-D with the original box and accessories shown in my first post, everything is working okay and in good condition except for the leatherette that must be changed along with the foam seals. Not my first FX-D but the first one boxed and with accessories. I will scan the spacer instructions and post it in the manual's section, not easy to find on the net.
