Hello Forum,
i've recently accquired a Contax Distagon 35mm F2.8 MMJ, as 2nd Copy, after my 1st One into the 90s. The Seller wrote about "Top Condition", and it does have barely Scratches on the Body, it's Serial 730xxxxxx.
The Issue hereby is, Aperture Blades are only working from Open Aperture F2.8, stopping down to F5.6, further turning the Aperture Ring, the Blades won't stop down, from F8 down to F22. How could this being fixed, and how much would that cost? I am contacting eBay, this isn't right. I feel doomed.
Kind regards

Before contacting EBAY, contact the seller and see if you can come to an agreement. If not, then contact EBAY.
My first GUESS is that there is an "OIL on the blades" issue -- as opposed to "Blades gone bad". On some lenses, it is an easy fix. On others it isn't.
But since it is not "as advertised", you should be covered by EBAY -- but chances are the seller will agree to your solution (whatever that is).
Let us know how it goes.

Just last night I opened a Distagon 28/2.8 that had no change in aperture at all, and as xkaes suggests, it had oil on the blades, and more than enough that turning the ring or tripping the rear lever did nothing. I usually try to clean them in-place first, with cotton swabs dipped in alcohol. Once I got the blades to pop out and started cleaning, I had the same kind of results, where the aperture would stick at f/11. I'm waiting on a new dental tool to help with a fix before I tear this one down completely. It doesn't take much oil either, since the iris on the wide angles are much smaller than any of the other lenses. If you end up keeping the lens and want to try cleaning it... I don't know how the 35 compares to the others, but the 25/2.8 is not constructed in the same way as the 28/2.8, so the teardown steps might be totally different from either or both of them.

Yeah, the oil on the blades can be pesky. All it takes is a tiny bit and it messes everything up. I've got three lenses that have the problem. Otherwise they are great.

It turned out fine, somebody was looking for it, it costed me 20 bucks to fix that. Now its working as it should be.
