I know this is the rarest of Yashica SLRs with a C/Y mount but I have 2 bodies, one missing a few top plate components, which need repair as neither works. Although I'm in the UK, I don't mind shipping them anywhere that can help - I'll happily sacrifice one to get the other working if that's what it takes. I've attached a piccie of one of them attached to the lovely ML 28-85mm lens.
I hope someone can help.
Cheers.

Well, if there is a D model, then somewhere there had to be an A,B, and C to go along with the naming convention. Can't say as I've seen an FX-A around, biggles. Is there anything specific that is non-functioning? Do you get lights in the viewfinder when a battery is installed, the metering system is turned on, and you press the metering button in front? PF Updated: Wouldn't you know it. The FX-A came out three years after the FX-D! There are no B and C models. Here's a Flickr post that might point to your problem, Graham. Could be something common to all those As and Ds. www.flickr.com/photos/captainchaoz/6926319081/That is quite a rare camera, I hope you can get one fixed, especially since you've been looking since 2008.

Hello ridgeblue,
Thank you for the reply. One of the cameras is dead and is missing a few components; the other powers up and the meter works but I can't get the shutter to fire, though there are no signs of shutter damage. It may be that one can be a donor for the other to produce a single, working FX-A. It's a lovely camera - sharing quite a few parts with the FX-103 - and has a unique hybrid focusing system which is apparent when you look at the mirror which has etched focus zones on it. They were used primarily by the US military and one US law enforcement agency. It is generally reckoned that under 1000 were produced and just a handful found their way to Europe though they never went on general sale over here.
Given their history, my best chance for a repair will probably be the US.
Cheers.

It might be a silly idea, Biggles, but have you tried using the (electronic) cable switch to fire the shutter?

At any rate, even if it's a rare bird that you got here, I would see no harm in removing the camera's base plate to look at the gears. You might indeed be having the same problem as described by Captainchaoz on flickr: "I just got lucky and got a non worker on ebay. It was an easy fix though as after base plate removal I found the cocking mechanism was jammed by a foreign object. Once object removed and batteries inserted all working fine now."

Hello Michael,
Good to hear from you - thank you for the response. Yes, I tried both of your suggestions but without luck. I suspect the main board may have failed on the complete camera; I'm hoping that the board on the incomplete one may be OK and could be used in its place. I wish I could find a repair manual for the FX-A as I suspect there are quite a few points of difference between it and either the FX-D or FX-103 but the shutter looks the same; for such a small production run, I don't believe Kyocera produced one - probably just a small supplement to the FX-D version. Even if I can't revive the hybrid focusing, I would be happy to have an FX-D/103 working in FX-A clothing!
