I just noticed a new "image credits" link showing on Google's redesigned Images Search results, that is pulling data directly from the IPTC metadata embedded in indexed images. It includes creator and copyright info If it's available. This is a first for search engines and long overdue. I've suspected for some time that Google search has been reading EXIF data to help it classify some info it finds beneficial for indexing images and the pages they're on, but EXIF is image-specific data, and doesn't contain 'ownership' data for users.
