I've noticed this item from ebay here:
One should especially watch the ring at the filter-thread, it's being clearly broken, there's also a gap, shortly after the "Lens" marker onto the Ring... That guy does have 100% profile - but this Lens seems to be very weirdo....i wouldn't ever buy this, not for 290 EUR, not even 50....
Anyway, i do have a decent copy of this lens, just wanted to inform you guys about that weird eBay Auction...
PS: The ProBoard hier does have it's own maintainance issues - wanted to upload a jpeg with just 183kb, and it says, no bigger files than 1MB...it's 100% clearly the Boardsoftware here, not the picture from filesize.

I don't think it's broken. Looks like someone has notched the ring so they can use a lens spanner on it. Also looks like the spanner slipped and scratched the ring. Not nice looking but wouldn't affect the operation. My concern is why they did it. I always suspect anything that has visible signs of being dismantled.

I reckon the clue to why an attempt was made to open the lens is in the Ebay listing - a small amount of fungus on one of the internal elements. A classic example of the risk of an amateur trying to work on a lens - I admit I've opened a few primes in my time, usually to clean aperture blades, but I've never thought to try and work on a zoom.
One of the BIG problems is knowing which bezels can be removed using a friction ring and which can't - a classic example is the two standard 50mm Zeiss Planars - the bezel on the little f1.7 unscrews whereas the entire front section of the lens barrel has to be unscrewed on the f1.4. Get it the wrong way round and a damaged lens could follow...
That aside, it's nice to see one of these wonderful optics available at a more realistic price...and its serial number suggests it's a late production lens.

Thanks for your insight. Well, my serial no. is even a bit higher, and into better condition, i'd say mint.
