I have a few DSB lenses (Not this one), so I can only offer you some 'family' related observations. The DSB line is generally believed to be single coated lenses, where the later ML/MC series were all multi-coated. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad, but single coatings aren't as robust in handling flares and contrast issues. From those I've used, they're generally not bad performers, although they might not be in the 'wow' category that some of their later siblings might be in. Having said that, this lens might not be exactly what it appears to be either. This is conjecture on my part, and based solely on visual cues when compared to another lens that's almost too similar to ignore. A Sun 38-90mm 3.5 Macro seems to be remarkably similar to it, and I'm wondering if it isn't the same optics wrapped up in a new barrel/grip design and then re-branded for Yashica. What I think might be the tell-tale feature is the somewhat rectangular mask visible when looking through the front element block. Sometimes all you can do is go out and shoot it, and see how it works for you and your eyes. The 'mask', visible here in the DSB version: Allegro.pl shopping site - archived image
And visible here in the Sun model: in a blog post w/picsAnd - the similarity is even mentioned here on the Sun review page: at allphotolenses.comIf it turns out that this is, in fact, a Sun zoom... it might end up to be a more-clever purchase than you'd think, and it might also be multi-coated too. ( 3 Sun Zooms - MFlenses.com) Sun Optical user group on Flickr, and even more Sun samples.

A couple of links as far as construction details go.... There's this page (by cdegroot) that lists several DSB lenses, and it includes details and notes on this one. There's also an optical schematic along with a quick review on the German digicamclub.de forum site - that includes several sample photos taken with it on a Sony A7 full frame.

thanx, it's a good read, lot of links - some new for me. really good this test with the camera from the entertainment company.
for testing such a large zoom lens i need some time and much better weather. unfortunately both are not around these days.
I know about Sun lenses, didn't know about their similar zoom. However it does not really look-a-like. Could be repacked, one or another.
Now this (internet) myth about Yashica lenses range, from Dx all the way to ML .. the more I read the more Im sceptical about the truth.
Cheers

Personally, i do only like and use the ML Series. Whilas the DSB Zooms depending onto the Model do have a fine color rendition, their single coating does have issues with flare, blacklit, harsh light, sunlight, etc. Hereby, the ML series (with Multilayer Coating) are really being better into this term.
