I've been watching for 17-21mm lenses for the last year or so, and have found - and sometimes acquired - a few of the usual suspects. I recently saw a Yashinon-DS 20mm that I'd never seen before - and bid on and won the auction. (Curiosity can sometimes cost a few nickles) I'm assuming these are a bit on the rare side, or everyone is clutching theirs and not letting go.
The listing images weren't terribly clear, and there was some obvious crustiness overall, but it turned out to be a rather nice find once cleaned up. There were 2 issues, but both are minor. The grip rubber was missing, and the coating was a bit flaky. I think the grit/grime/dust sat in the crevice where the ring meets the glass for so long, that it caused some micro-flecks of the coating to separate from the surface of the glass from heat/exposure/mosture, or all of the above. None of the coating elsewhere is out of sorts, and it's limited to only a few very small patches. The grip was temporarily replaced by a black silicone wristband, but will now get a proper grip from a similar-enough diameter-wise donor lens once I get it measured and cut.
Neither issue really affects the optical performance anyway, so it's a keeper for the moment. It holds its own against the 21mm Yashica ML I have, and a Canon FDn 17mm, but it's not quite a match for a Nikkor 20mm 2.8 AI. I'm thinking I've got a mediocre copy of the ML, and hoping to get another to compare it to in hopes that it will beat everything but the Zeiss T*'s in the 18-21mm range - but - that's partly the reason to compare against whatever I can find (and afford).
Here's the lens and its case, with a few sample shots to follow after I get them converted and resized...
A note on this image too... it was taken on my Sony NEX F-3, with a Yashica 28-50mm 3.5 @ f/5.4
