This was delivered to my door today. Yashica Pentamatic, complete with Auto Yashinon 50/1.8 lens by Mike Novak, on Flickr My initial impression is that this is a high quality, well built SLR camera, more solidly constructed than the J-series cameras, and it has one of the best split-image focus screens that I have seen, which begs the question; why did Yashica not use this screen on the J cameras? The lens lock was not working when I unboxed the camera, and the focus was very stiff, a half-turn of a screw fixed the first problem, and exercise has taken care of the latter, otherwise, this camera seems ready for a roll of film.

This is the Pentamatic S, I believe, with the Tomioka-made 50/1.8 lens. Now to find the coupled meter.

Not an S unless it says so, Mike. It's Pentamatic, Pentamatic S, and Penta J in that order. And there were two of the clip on meters, as the Pentamatic and the S have a top speed of 1/1000, while the top speed of the J is 1/500.

It also has a self timer, and the non-angled shutter release, all of which identify it as an S.

...and you have skipped the Pentamatic II. There were three clip-on meters, there was a clip-on for the JP as well. The Penta J is very similar to the Pentamatic S, but it is minus the self timer.

I couldn't see the S until I saw the photo on Flickr, Mike. The highlights are quite blown out on my screen. And I really shouldn't be going by my memory when it comes to Yashica camera chronology. PF It was shot in the style of a Japanese eBay seller. Blow out the highlights to hide the defects. :/ The engraving is quite shallow, and there is very little paint left in it, it is hard to notice in real life.
