This camera is just so solidly built, but I wanted a strap that does not get in the way so much, or at least has a nice touch. The film, when sent out for a high resolution scan at North Coast Photo, has good contrast down to the pixel level. I almost sent this Canon FT out for refurbishing to reduce the shutter clatter and squeak, but fully functional is good enough for me. My pictures.

Clatter and squeak is not good on a Canon. Ask any AE-1 owner. But a good clean and lube should keep it running for many years. I keep trying to get more FL lenses, but other things get in the way. Camera gear searches go in cycles though, and sooner or later I'll complete the set.

My local shop, Peter's Camera, refused the work on my Canon FT. I do have a quote from another state for less than $200 and a backlog of 4 or 5 weeks. (Peter also turned down the work on my Electro 35 GSN, but but he did clean a Mamiya C3 shutter and repair the speed setting that I broke.)
The Canon AE-1 has much of the same iconic appearance as the FT, but I read that the material construction is very different. The FT feels like it's been carved out of the metal. (And my EOS Digital Rebel, EOS 650, and EOS Elan II are simply not as iconic or as fun.) I believe you, though, that the refurbishment issues are similar.
I changed the link above.

I own a couple AE-1's and have had an FT, get it looked at if its squeaking and chattering, you'll end up damaging it.........or be like myself, used to own an FT.......:/
It is a nice Camera though!

So my Canon FT is back from their gold service at Abilene Camera Repair. I find these pictures to be edifying, to put it mildly.

You mean they took it apart, then shipped it back to you? Some service.

Oh! Thanks for the laugh. ACR also did a fine job of reassembly.
I should have made a recording of the mirror and shutter sounds before and after the servicing. This Canon FT still makes remarkable sounds: "Grk grk grk grk, KAwi zzzzzz hiTOK rattle ring".

Can't say mine sounds that dramatic. But remember, they are fifty or more years old.

ACR does repeatedly assure me that the sounds from this Canon FT are normal now, however I try to represent them.
I have Fujifilm 200 in it now, matched with a yellowish Tokina zoom lens.

That ought to make for some odd color shifts.
