This is a walk down Memory Lane... Who here remembers using pan-focus lenses?
I just received this lovely Itorex 50mm f40 (Yes - forty!) and hope to be able to grab some shots with it to show you what fun these can be.
Olympus have re-introduced photographers to such optics with their two body-cap lenses made for their m4/3 system. The images created by pan-focus lenses will rarely win awards for sharpness and acuity but they have a lovely Lomographic feel to them and some of the resulting photos can exhibit quite an almost ethereal quality. More anon...

Hi xkaes,
I'd not heard about the Loreo range of products until your post to this thread; thank you for the link.
If the postage costs weren't so high I'd buy their loupe and lens in a cap and have some macro fun with them. Pity they were never made in a C/Y mount but the M42 with an adapter would work just fine. How do you find the image quality of your lens in a cap?

I own the later version of that Olympus m4/3 lens cap and this is able to produce quite decent images, The quality, as with any lens, depends on the set f-stop. Open wide or stopped down to f64 are the softest, but since it uses round Waterhouse stops, the results not bad. In use, it is best to focus wide open. Then, using your TTL (assuming you have one), quickly compute the correct shutter speed in your head, or stop down and let your TTL meter figure it out (because the viewfinder will be pretty dark).
