A nearly new boxed set of the 300 AF with the 28-70 and 70-210 Power Zooms arrived yesterday, along with a CS-250AF and MA-8.5 as shown in the photo (thanks bobblehat for the DA-5!). I don't know how the Power Zooms compare with the standard versions but I hope to acquire the latter soon so that a performance test can be undertaken.
The 300AF certainly lacks the versatility, complexity and build quality of the 230AF but it's easy in the hand; sadly, it does not take interchangeable screens which would have been useful with the DA-5 Data Back as with the 230AF, DA-1 and FA-51 combination.

Thank you for the link; it was very useful.
The lenses are evidently capable of producing images of quality which is encouraging but the rubber grips, while not bad yet, are showing early signs of degradation. There must be something that can stabilise the rubber before it turns really sticky - presumably anything which can keep oxygen away from it...
As cameras go, the 300 is not a bad one and seems to do what it should pretty well - but it is not a 230AF! I assume back in the day, its price probably reflected that.

Over here we use a product called ArmorAll, a protection spray for plastic car interiors. I've used in to great success on my Nikon F100 and N80's, but on the N90s (F90X) it didn't work as good, so I entirely removed the back coverings with alcohol. I can report that since I did that report on the 300, the grips on the Yashica Power Zooms have not deteriorated after their initial cleaning with alcohol. PF

Thanks for the tip. I shall grab a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and see what happens...
