I don't know if this applies across every version and variation, but - here's some very basic dimensional and design differences between the 2 lenses I have... Spiratone #532xxxx | Yashica 'Reflex' #520xxxx | Measured Part | 81.92mm | 83.10mm | outer metal barrel diameter | 80.02mm | 79.98mm | outer filter ring diameter
| 105.02mm | 112.46mm | lens length, rim to back barrel flat | 40.52mm | 40.23mm | foot width / squared |
The foot is not only slightly different in size between them, but all the Spiratone's edges are chamfered, where the Yashica's are primarily rounded. The outer edge of the rear flat of the barrel has knurled edges on the Spiratone, and the Yashica is smooth. The rear inner-most throat of the Yashica is about 2mm larger in diameter on it's filter ring., so there's more 'glass' and more light coming in. The 'reveal' depth of the Yashica's front element retaining ring is deeper by 3-4 full thread turns. The Revue version that Matthias posted looks almost identical to the Spiratone I have in every respect - except the '533xxxx' serial number pattern. The Yashica... Pic 1 & Pic 2The Spiratone... on an NEX F3

I just went back to look at the photos on the PK mount version that xkaes posted... and the whole grip/focus section is different from every other version. It's similar to the Yashica vesion - but - it's 'taller'. The Yashica versions that have the built-in hoods have very short focusing grips, since the hood takes up so much space. That PK version has the same sloping edge at the distance scale end of the grip as the Yashica, but the grip section is almost twice the size. There's no 'cutout' to view the distance scale like the Spiratones or the T-mount Revue version..

The Spiratone 500mm Minitel came in at least three versions, all with 77mm front threads -- BEFORE the introduction of the Minmitel-M version which is completely different and has a 72mm thread. The earliest version of the Minitel did not have the "cut-out" for the focusing scale, but at some point they added the "cut-out". The multi-coating seems to have changed over time as well, but that was happening with Yashica glass as well.

Will wonder never cease?!?!??! Apparently, the Tomioka 500mm f8 CAT has not only shown up -- with minor modifications -- as the Spriatone Minitel (NOT the Minitle-M) and the Revuenon. It also was sold by SEARS as the Sears 500mm f8. How do I know this? There is one on EBAY right now. www.ebay.com/itm/274326775549?ul_noapp=trueThe appearance is the same, as are the accessories. And the serial # starts with 532xxxxx. The obvious difference is the lens case.
Who know where else it showed up?!?!?!?

xkaes ... It is certainly a 500mm mirror lens, but I can't say I see any other similarity - and the serial I see on that one seems to be 100450. There's no tripod foot of any kind, the rear of the lens has a knurled and chamfered ring where the Tomioka/Yashica/(Spiratone) would be ringless and flat, and the grip rubber is more like a Tamron or Tokina type. The threaded section of the hood is far different than the separate hoods on the Spiratone versions, where it has what looks like a dual-walled 'channel' with threads inside it on the attaching edge of the hood. It looks far more like a Phoenix or Kenko or Kalimar 500 than anything close to the Yashica or Spiratone models. Obviously there were many more manufacturers of 500 cats than just Tomioka/Yashica, Zeiss, Nikon and Canon, with multiple mirror focal lengths made by Sigma, Tamron, Tokina; plus a host of lesser known companies that had them as at least a 500mm version. Tack on the more modern f/6.3 variants by Samyang and Rikenon and others, and there are lots of these that all have a me-to 'open paint can' appearance. I'll pull mine out to have a closer look, but I think that the real telling details are going to be things like the assembly screw locations on barrels that match. Things that aren't part of the cosmetics are more likely to be the same when there's a common manufacturer across seller's brands. EDIT to add: The Tokina 500 f/8 in T-Mount has the same case design and lens appearance, and Sears had an ongoing relationship with them over the years as a lens supplier... www.ebay.com/itm/174236765572

You're correct. I contacted the seller who has "532xxxxx" in the listing, but he says that is pure coincidence. It's an internal shop number they use to keep track of inventory. Stranger things have happened -- and are happening!
