Picking up on a reply to a message from a Member rightly celebrating the purchase of a lovely, boxed 159MM, this might be helpful to anyone looking for advice on trying to repair one with a dead shutter - a problem that beset some of the early copies:
For anyone having a 159MM with a dead shutter, (usually this arises from oxidisation of the magnet/armature assembly) there is a well-established procedure for correcting that particular problem that can be done in the home. Just go to: www.rangefinderforum.com/classics/forum/messages/15681/12566.html?1218312674 and you'll find the solution.
Unfortunately, the earliest 159s that suffered from problems with a PCB can't be saved unless a donor camera is available.

The easiest way to diagnose if it's just the release magnet is to open the back door, and press the release button. If the red LED to the bottom left of the shutter chamber briefly flashes red - it's the magnet. If it does not - it's something more serious! :-)

Hello...I have this problem as well but the link above to the rangefinderforum looks dead. Any other place where I can find this procedure? Thank you so much.

I think if you go to this url, you will find the original post: kyp.hauslendale.com/classics/forum/messages/15681/12566.html It is so difficult keeping on top of the various websites that close but someone has kindly archived the previous site.
