Hi Folks,
Just managed to buy a 1978 copy of Practical Photography which has a comparative review of the auto-only Pentax ME and Yashica FRII cameras...
Among many interesting comments - both cameras came out on even terms - is the one I've circled about the Yashica DSB 50 1.9. I only have one and love it for its superb performance at f5.6-f8 where it is actually sharper than my Zeiss 50mm Planars; it's only let down by its poorer response to extreme lighting where it is more prone to flare than the Zeiss or ML lenses. I also love the fact that it's built like a tank...
The magazine went on to give it maximum marks for its optimum performance at f5.6 - 11/10 (!!) and a maximum of 5 stars for overall performance, the best of all the lenses tested.

I think I've got a DSB 1.9 around here somewhere. Hopefully not one of the fungus afflicted ones. Oh yeah, I remember now. It was full of oil, and I got halfway through cleaning it and stopped for a rush job, then never got back to it. Have to dig it out and finish it now. Thanks for the reminder.
