I've got a problem that seems to be endemic with this particular model as three out of five TL Electros of mine cannot change shutter speeds anymore but fire at the same, uniform speed no matter where I turn the speed dial. It's clearly a mechanical problem, and it seems to be related to lack of use (my black ITS went foul from one day to the other, having rested on the shelf for a couple of months). So I guess the problem might be solved with a little CLA job in the right places--provided one knows where those places are...
Any ideas, folks...?
Thanks a lot in advance for any helpful hints!
Michael

Try rotating the shutter speed dial rapidly several dozen times. Sometimes, the electrical contacts can become tarnished with disuse. Usually when this happens, the meter will also always show the "over" arrow.

I always thought the TL Electros' shutters were operated purely mechanically, with electronics only entering into it to control the accuracy of shutter speeds. Thanks again for enlightening me! The shutter on the TL Electro X is mechanical, but the speeds are electronically controlled, and will default to 1/500 if the electronics are not working correctly. It is also a step-less shutter, it will fire at intermediate speeds that are between the click stops, which adds to the accuracy of the metered exposure.
