You can describe photography in many ways, most of the time is measured in the amount of thoughts you pull out from a photo. This stream is full of creativity and humor from this part of the world, my country, Romania. www.flickr.com/photos/24254545@N03have fun, adrian

Salut adrian2!
I spent a lot of my life in Romania between 1978 and 1985. I was working with Nadia Comaneci and the gymnastics team at what was then the 23rd August Sports Park off Bulevardul Muncii, and I also did some choreography at Scaola Sportiva 2. Very happy memories of training, competitions and travelling all over the country - although things later became rather difficult as a foreigner before being forced to leave in 1985. It was where I first got to use Contax/Yashica gear properly - inside the Sala de Gimnastica.
One of my favourite photos, snapped when Nadia wasn't looking:

Speaking of Nadia Comaneci, I once out scored her husband, Bart Conner, on pommel horse in a high-school gymnastics meet. It was not that I was very good, I was an average performer on my best day. But Bart fell off of the horse twice. It happens to the best of us, and he was the greatest athlete that I have ever met. That was many years, and many, many pounds ago.

salut-salut! Using Yashica to photograph Nadia's training is great news for me and is also shows the popularity of Yashica's brand Even today Nadia is considered one of the greatest athlete in the world but to closely work with Nadia is fantastic. Did you took any pictures on that era? I can't find your stream... can I take a look?

Amazing the hidden links here with that Photostream, Adrian. I would have never known about Mike and Biggles gymnastics past without it. It's also a pleasure to see more of your country.

I have many hundreds of transparencies from my time with Nadia and also my kids at Sport School No.2. If you come across the book 'Nadia- My Own Story' - it can still be found on Ebay and good second-hand book sellers - you will see a few of my photos as well as being able to read our book on her life up to the point when it was published in 1981; Nadia and I co-wrote it. I am pleased to be able to say that we remain friends still - after 37 years (I can't believe it was that long ago). My first book was called 'Behind The Scenes of Gymnastics' - Proteus Publishing, 1980 - and Nadia wrote the foreword. About 2/3rds of the photos are mine with Alan Burrows supplying many of the great pictures from gymnastics' earlier years. Nadia remains one of the greatest Olympians - and also remains very, very fit!
Respect to you greyscale! You must have been pretty good in your day... What a small world it is to be sure - of all the people in all the world...

I scored an 8.1 that day, which set a sophomore record that stood for many years. But I was a pommel horse specialist, the all-around guys are the impressive ones. Bart Conner competed for a school in the same athletic conference as mine, and was a phenom at the sport. My eldest brother John was a world class gymnast, who made the Olympic team as an alternate in 1972. Health problems (a necrotic kidney) cost him any chance for a trip to Munich, though. He still performs occasionally as a beach acrobat with an amateur troupe at Venice Beach at the age of 64.

PF PF, Maybe there is a cultural barrier to understand some of photos... maybe, but most of them are universal and you have to see the irony and search for a smile in them. Living the real thing is like dancing between sane and insanity... so that's the real magic about my country PF, Mike and Biggles, you see... this is beginning of a beautiful friendship

Is not that easy to get a hand on those two books. A print from the '80. If by chance anyone can provide info or have them I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount of money to have them.

I tried looking up other outlets online, but the only places I find that still have copies readily available are public libraries. Here's a link to the world catalog to see if there's a library nearby that you can visit to read it, or even check a copy out if it's a lending library. www.worldcat.org/isbn/0906071569?loc=Other than that, you might have luck with searching on the book's ISBN number with whatever local search engine you have locally, and not under a US engine, like Google: ISBN: 0906071569
