The 230-AF Super arrived from Goodwill today. It looks lovely. I put a new battery in it, added a lens, and started checking out the features. It was okay until I started to release the shutter, then it got all wonky on me. I opened up the film door to find the shutter blades all bent up. Don't know if it failed just then, or if someone put a finger through it before it got shipped. There is a photo of it on the page, but as usual, it's way too dark to see any detail.
I e-mailed them about it, and they contacted me back offering to refund my money, and send a return shipping label. I just told them to forget that, I can use it for parts, and as a shelf queen for my collection.
My first impressions of it is that it's a well built camera as far as ergonomics go. It feels nice in the hand, and the buttons are where they need to be. The pop-up flash is a big improvement on the original, though I have to research the GN to see if it's better or worse. I couldn't get it to work though, so it may be kaput, or because of the shutter demise just won't fire. It would be nice if it had better read-outs in the viewfinder, and all the beeping is a tad annoying. It looks better than a Canon T90, though it's not as capable. And sooner or later the battery (2CR5) will likely be unavailable. But I like it. Gonna get another one to replace it.

Here is an interesting variation on the theme: olx.ph/item/kyocera-210-af-film-camera-body-ID4ZJ7x.htmlIf my research is correct, Kyocera was considering transitioning their top-level cameras to be labeled with the parent brand, while offering the consumer and entry level cameras with the Yashica brand, after the partnership with Zeiss/Contax ended. This camera was only sold in Japan.

PF The 230-AF Super, I take it, is basically identical with what would then be marketed as the 270-AF. And I agree with you in that design-wise this is a clear improvement on the old AF-230 although technically it represents a downgrade of sorts. I like mine (the AF-270. that is) too and I've been using it quite a lot recently. By the way, I've got a clear recommendation to make for the f4.5/70-210 AF zoom lens. Some sample photos will follow soon. Michael

I had a couple of the Supers on the waiting list, but the owners were really iffy on details, and one was even missing parts. So I'll look for 270-AFs. I did order a 70-210 because it had the hood and both caps with it, and got it really cheap because no one else bid on it. Unfortunately, the seller didn't know how to pack it, and it got broken in transit. I kept it because what I paid for it was less than I'd seen asked for just the hood, and the shipping was free. PF

There is also a camera store that did repairs with 10 shutters for the 230-AF. I'm hoping they are identical throughout the series, as it would then cost less than $20 to replace mine. That would be good news indeed, PF. Why, what did he send it in, a plastic bag...?? Anyway, like most Yashi AF lenses (except the 60mm macro and the 24mm wide angle perhaps), this one should not be too hard or costly to replace, and it's well worth the effort--great sharpness and smooth, 'creamy' bokeh--whereas the AF 4.0-4.8/80-200mm I just tested does not seem better than average. BTW, another recommendation I wish to make is the 2.8/28mm... Michael

Yeah, this will be another one of those projects that takes me forever to complete, Michael. And then there's always something else to take my mind off it. I've got so much stuff in my Watch List it's hard to pull the trigger sometimes, what with all the different camera platforms I own.
