Well, I have just sold a 1936 Zeiss Super Ikonta 530 A with a rare combination of top plate shutter release, Tessar 7cm (not the more usual 7.5) f3.5, an unusual Compur shutter and lovely Albada finder which was bought in 1938 from Photo-Porst for the sum of 165RM; it sold for £460.
It has just paid for: 1x RTS Fundus, 1x RTS Demonstrator (the one with the gold base), 1x RTS, 2x 50mm 1.4 AE Zeiss Planars, 1x 60mm 2.8 S-Planar, another Yashica ML 70-210 f4 (yippee!), Yashica ML C 200 f4 and a Tamron SP 300 f5.6 Macro telephoto. It also allowed me to grab a Minolta MD 50mm 1.2 - much sharper than the more common, bulkier 58mm 1.2 to use on my Fuji/Olympus CSCs.
I also have a very rare 137MD/CGCM variant coming which I will share with you when it arrives.
One day, I'll have to stop buying....but not just yet!

That was a good deal. A very good deal! No need to stop collecting anytime soon.

For 36 years I said I would not buy a Yashica FRII as I'm not a great fan of auto-only cameras; it's why my Contax 137MAs outnumber my 137MDs by 4 to 1. BUT - I saw what looks like a mint version on Ebay with a DSB 55 f2 and my heart melted... So, it's coming my way and although £23 was more than I was wanting to pay, heart got the better of head...yet again!
I'm curious to try out the camera - I'm wondering if there's an auto-only workaround like there is for the Contax 137MD. I've also never had any experience with the DSB 55 f2 so that should prove interesting too. I'll report back....

I'm curious about the FR II also, as I can't shoot mine until I replace the seals, and fix the frame counter.

Luckily, the timer works fine, not that I'll use it much.

Ah - that infamous Yashica plastic FR frame counter... A common FR issue indeed, Graham, and the really nasty thing about it is that (parts of) the broken cog responsible for the counter failure may cause still further damage to the winding mechanism. FR frame counter glitchOn German eBay I see quite a lot of FRs with broken winding mechanisms offered as "for parts or repair", and I strongly suspect that the problems, in many cases, began with broken frame counters. Well, the weird Contax 137MD variant arrived today. I've decided to show it to you before I clean it and replace the leathers, light-seals, etc... A bonus is that there is no mirror damper to worry about!
The collaboration between Yashica and Zeiss back in the 1970s and 80s resulted in a number of variations of models, usually for scientific and medical applications, the most celebrated of which is the Contax RTS Fundus (my all-time favourite Contax and I keep grabbing when they appear). Most of these oddballs appear pretty similar to their parent camera but this one is more like one of the Contax CGCM bodies - but an even more radical take on those 137 variants.
As you can see, there is no pentaprism or mirror assembly on this Contax M35W. There is a rudimentary shutter mechanism in the camera which synchronises with a Zeiss microscope assembly containing a Prontor Magnetic shutter. As you can see, it has the D-5 Data-Back attached. It takes its power from the Zeiss microscope assembly which is converted to the 6v necessary for the internal motor-drive.
Interestingly, there is a similar version which uses a Yashica FR as the basis for the body and is almost always coupled to the Yashica FR Winder; I have never seen a FX variant.

A familiar refrain...and if you add to that dislike for photographic gear with a hatred of my motorbike, it lead to the inevitable ultimatum ' it's either me or the motorbike and your cameras' I'm now happily single again and free to buy what I like...

All my divorces came before the wedding ceremony. Much better to get that out of the way before it's too late.
Oh, and I just won a 230AF-Super.
