I recently bought a very nice example of this very compact SLR from a local seller. I am quite pleased with the results from the first roll. The camera is a joy to use, small and light with a large, bright viewfinder and an accurate light meter. It is a shame that Mamiya removed itself from the 35mm market shortly after this camera came out, they were on an interesting path and it would have been interesting to see how they might have progressed. What doesn't make sense is the CS mount was never to be duplicated in any later series of cameras. And it was incompatible with any earlier camera. But then, they did switch from cloth to metal shutters, and added automation to the Z series (which is likely why the mount changed again). The late seventies were a time of changeover for a lot of camera manufacturers, and the NC1000 just became an old camera too quickly.

Still, this is a fine, well-built camera, and the Mamiya lenses are excellent.
(There's a guy on my German analog forum doing 'lost places', abandoned factories, schools and the like in East Germany. I greatly admire his pictures and, up until recently, I was convinced he was using 6x4.5 or 6X9 medium format gear. Much to my surprise, he actually shoots with a 35mm Mamiya SLR and lenses.)
Have fun with your new acquisition, Mike!

The NC cameras do have shutter priority AE, perhaps Mamiya decided that aperture priority was the wave that everyone else was starting to ride, and that is what killed the CS mount. On the bright side, it does keep the list of lenses to procure short, with only the Mamiya CS lenses and two third-party zooms ever made in the CS mount. But I don't think that something like the 14mm CS lens would be easy (or economical) to find. And the M42 to CS adaptor, which would be very handy, is also not easy to find.

That's why I like finding old cameras that don't have a lot of accessories. You don't have to go chasing gear to kit them out. I saw a 14mm CS lens for sale once, and yes, they were asking a nice amount for it.

Thank you for the link, Alex. For $15, I had to buy one, and will keep posted on the results. I noticed a few other goodies of interest to film photographers on his website.

It'll be fantastic to see that camera in action with adapted lenses now! Keep us all posted with how it goes.
