One of the things in my collector's life I really regretted was auctioning off my Contax 139 Quartz at Fleabay's as soon as I had gotten hold of an RTS III. While the latter now keeps collecting dust on its shelf, I find myself increasingly drawn towards using smaller and lighter gear than this brick of a camera. Today a 139 Quartz I bought for 25 euros (USD 30) off the Bay arrived -- it was a €30 "buy-it-now" thing but I could knock off a fiver -- and it works just like a charm. Came with fresh batteries too, and there are no issues except the usual ones (light seals, damper and leatherette). It's really amazing how the prices of most analog consumer SLRs have declined - and the ugly looks of the disintegrating leatherette that you find with most Kyocera cameras of that time now certainly helps to discourage prospective buyers too. Anyway, I'm happy! Michael

Good for you, Michael! I don't know about the prices for these, but when I see one on a certain auction site I frequent (no, not eBay), they get bid up substantially because of the Contax name. I keep trying to snag one though. Maybe I'll find one at the flea market.

Nice one - the 139 was Contax' answer to the OM1 and for those who love the smaller, lighter bodies, it's a real joy to use. You got it for a very good price.
I used to use mine with the 159's W-7 Winder, the 139 works brilliantly with it and you get an extra frame per second over the 139's dedicated winder.
But please, don't neglect that superb RTSIII...
