I just saw a quick mention of this and don't have much detailed info on the backstory yet -but- if you currently have an active Photobucket account, you will automatically be opted into an agreement that any content you have uploaded will be made available to scraping for a new AI training contract the owners just recently signed. This has been clearly termed that it will be used for Biometric Scanning purposes, and not just 'simple' LLM (Large Language Model) Generative AI content generation.
Essentially this will mean at a minimum, face recognition and fingerprint collections from hires photos wherever possible. Not exactly playtime entertainment or copyright infringement workarounds anymore!
If you DO NOT want to abide by that agreement you would have had a 45 day window of time to opt out, which will now end this coming Monday, July 22nd, 2024.
If you don't follow the procedure, or don't respond with any objection at all, you will forever lose the ability to opt out. You may also be prevented from deleting previous content, according to a couple of posts that I've read but not yet confirmed, so if you think you're safe to ignore things for now and dump photos later, I don't think it will be wise to make that assumption. It seems that users who may have thought they deleted their entire accounts and all contents without actually opting out may be in for a surprise, and find that all their deleted content was supposedly restored.
I don't have an account there, so I don't have any first hand knowledge to share.
