Hi - thanks for letting us share in your good fortune! Lovely, classic combination of Yashica gear. I particularly like the pictorial quality and depth of field of Photo 5. Keep up the excellent work - and keep sharing it....

Fine output there, Dave. I'm looking to re-cover mine, most likely from Aki-Asahi. I found a seller in the States, but his are originals that most likely would have shrunk by now, and I'm wanting something other than the cushy feel they give. Like what is on my FX-3 Super 2000.

@ Dave Impressive stuff indeed, Dave!
@ PF How about getting some thin leather and cutting the covers yourself? It's not that hard either and I find that kind of 'cam modding' plenty of fun.

I've thought about that, Michael, but I want to make sure nothing is showing when done.

My FX-3 is reskinned with real leather. I like that a lot.... Never owned a camera with real leather on it. Feels nice and smells nice too :-) No idea what the origin of this leather is. Maybe Aki's...

My FX-3 is reskinned with real leather. I like that a lot.... Never owned a camera with real leather on it. Feels nice and smells nice too :-) No idea what the origin of this leather is. Maybe Aki's... You are quite right - it makes a real difference to the feel and appearance of the camera.
There have been 2 main providers of replacement leathers (as opposed to Kyocera's leatherette) for Yashica/Contax cameras - AkiAsahi.com and cameraleather.com. Of the Yashica/Contax cameras, only the RTS/RTS Fundus was skinned with real leather, and interestingly they chose pig-skin for its more luxurious feel in preference to cow-hide. I wonder if that was why RTS sales were weak in the Gulf states, which is where the wealth was in the late 1970s, and precipitated the move to an alternative in all subsequent models?
I always buy leathers these days from AkiAsahi as the quality is great; many models and accessories are catered for; his prices are low and delivery is very fast. I visited cameraleather.com last week looking for a specific skin he used to supply and almost all the links on his website are down and the date shown is 2014; does anyone know if he is still trading?
AkiAsahi also offers bespoke, laser-cut light-seals and mirror dampers for most of our models too. He can also supply adhesive leather sheets that allow you to cut your own patterns; this has been essential for me when re-covering the original data backs for the 137MD as he produces a pattern for the standard D-5 data back but not the very rare earlier type. He has also enabled me to re-skin my 250 Backs as well as replace the huge light baffles they contain. I hope very much that he stays in business for quite some time.
