I just picked up a zoom image 90 super on eBay. Before I bought it I looked up the user manual, and it said it had the option to be used with a remote.
The camera I bought is new in the box, which according to a sticker on it is a demo model, it came from a camera store that closed down. The manual it comes with is exactly the same as the one online, except there’s no mention of a remote. Anyone know why this may be? I want the remote, and I would assume it would work with this camera, but I don’t want to buy one if it’s not going to work with this demo model.

Does the "Demo" model you've bought have a "RC" position on the main on/off switch? It should be between the "Lens Closed" symbol and the "Lens Open" symbol on the switch. That might determine if the model you have, has the capability of receiving signals from the R-1 remote control.
Have a look on the Butkus.org website for the Yashica Zoomtec 90 Super manual for details of the R-1 operation.

Welcome to the Forum boxscape As bobblehat has said, unless your model has a specific RC option shown on the body (like the one between the ON and OFF positions of the Zoomtech 90 Super's power switch), a remote switch will not be compatible with your camera. Certainly, the standard version of the Zoom Image 90 Super has no remote option; if you have a retail demonstrator model, it should be no different. However, Kyocera did occasionally alter the spec of some models but I'm not aware of an RC upgrade to your camera. That said, on this Forum we have learned that conventional wisdom about anything bearing the Yashica name can be gainsaid by oddities that appear from time-to-time... If your box has no sticker extolling a RC option and the manual does not mention it, I think that whatever user manual you found online was a red herring; I'd be inclined to double-check that manual and see whether it was wrongly labelled and was in fact for the aforementioned Zoomtech model which looks almost identical to your camera - with the sole exception of that extra RC option on the power switch.

Thanks guys! The manual I found online was the Butkus one, I guess I didn’t look closely enough, because I didn’t realise the camera had a setting on the main switch specifically for the remote. The camera I have doesn’t have that setting, so no remote. I assumed that what made the super “super” was that option 😅 I appreciate the help

Alas, all the name variations can confuse ... Yashica/Kyocera were very good at that! Enjoy your camera anyway
