Apparently, this seller on EBAY thinks removing lenses from Yashica rangefinder cameras (dead I assume) is a good idea. Depending on the lens (it would have to have manual aperture control), this seems like a good approach. Repurposing great optics from dead cameras.

There have been quite a few ebay sellers over the years that have listed anything from horribly laughable to seemingly adept conversions like the one you mention - although I'd prefer to see much larger photos to see the work - but personally I've never been tempted to buy any of them. It's far too easy to make my own from projector lenses anyway ( Essay -and- Gallery Pics) . I suppose there's a ready market of those who've experienced using them on their own film camera and like the photos they produce with some nostalgia, and want to recreate the possibilities on digital. Since they are consumer lenses they don't command big money as ready-made or DIY projects, but rehousing high-end glass has been a staple in commercial movie and documentary films (and now digital) and ads and editorial work for decades. There are a number of companies that specialize in making regular runs of 35mm/70mm cine lenses from 35mm & medium format still gear. It can get very pricey, but the optics themselves are amazing. That's not really a remarkable outcome to anyone who's used the still camera versions on their own gear. Zeiss T Contax (35mm/6x45) and Zeiss Hasselblad mounts are reworked for use on Arri PL mount film cameras (35/70), Red digital cameras (8K), and several more camera brands and types. One of many rehousing builders... White Point Optics, on 35mm Zeiss T Contax (C/Y) conversions: whitepointoptics.com/lens-rehousing-service/contax-carl-zeiss
