Hi Forum,
i've bought a 2nd black TL Electro X, with a slight defect written by the seller - it does look almost as good, as my 1st Electro X, but now comes the issue with it: The mirror is always being locked up, and despite what you set via the lever/button on the side, the mirror always stays this way up. I tried very carefully with my fingernails to pull the mirror down, but it snaps back the sec, you let it loose. The Seller wrote false, there's no mirror attached into it's mirror box.
What issue does cause this, and is there a easy fix for that? I'd like to have and use two Electro X, one with the 35/2.8, the other with the 50/1.7 DX Yashica.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Nobody does have a clue - whileas the Mirror is always being kept upwards, despite the switch setting? It's sad.

It might be worth trying to contact the owner of this site: simonhawketts.co.uk/2017/03/12/yashica-tl-electro-x-repairs/ He might have some advice that could help. I don't know him but it's worth a try - otherwise, you'll have to send the camera away for a service.

I haven't had this issue with a TL-X, but I've acquired camera bodies of various types that have stuck mirrors. I doubt if there is only one way to cause it to happen, which means there isn't a universal fix either. I can only guess that it's related to the film advance not completing the full cycle, and either something has become broken, dislodged, or something is physically binding against something else. One way to find a possible cause is to remove the bottom plate and inspect the mechanics to see if they can be moved to complete the cycle -or- if they are frozen in place... and follow the connected pieces to see if there's a point of repair that's easy to access from underneath.

Most common reason for a mirror not returning is the failure of the second shutter curtain to complete its travel. Check the position of the curtain and maybe nudge it with a finger nail in the direction of travel. If that's the issue the shutter needs servicing. But, as lumiworx said, there are other possible reasons.
