It would be a cool idea to have a complete list of Yashica lenses DX|DS-M|DSB|ML etc. on the boards as a sticky. Is that a possibility?

Good idea - I've started compiling one as of this evening.
I'll send my list through to one of the moderators in a couple of days - it's not as easy as you'd think because there are some weird 'hybrid' lenses such as the 50mm f2 DX in a factory-fitted C/Y mount which don't officially exist (but I have 2 of them) that need to be included for completeness...and the YUS range which is relevant to our Members in the USA and Canada..
Wish me luck!

Welcome to the Forum postpicspls.
Can you clarify whether you are talking about the Auto-Yashinon DX 50 f1:2 or the Yashica DX 50 f1:2? I'm not familiar with the earlier Auto-Yashinon but the later Yashica DX has the same optical configuration as the ML 50 f1:2 and the Contax/Yashica bayonet mount. According to the major Yashica sites of old (Cees de Groot, etc), the DX 50 f2 should not exist. It appears to have slipped in between the DSB and ML lenses and has never appeared in any Yashica marketing literature. If it has the same optical formula as the ML, which looks to be the case, it will be a good performer with great evenness of light and good definition edge-to-edge. What I can't attest to is its contrast as it is not certain whether the DX is single-coated or is the precursor to the ML series and is multi-coated. It looks like ML multi-coating on the front element but I'm not sure. It should be a low cost lens and if it is, it would be worth having.
I'm sorry I can't be more informative; I'd certainly risk it. I have DX 50 1.2 somewhere and remember shooting a couple of rolls with it and the ML - if memory serves, I could not tell the difference and the ML is a real, though very under-rated, performer.

Thank you both for the great information!
I'm looking at a Yashica FX-3 with a Yashica DX 50 f1:2 and a YUS Automatic 75-150mm f/3.9 lens for about $35. Found one at a local thrift store. The camera isn't in the best of shape, the 50mm looks pretty good and the zoom looks like it's been well-used.
