Looks like I'm not the only one buying a Yashica T AF-D and having some problem (DX version). I bought it last week and it was fine, in relatively good condition and having flash autofocus and metering unproblematic. It was all good until I encountered a problem where when I pressed the shutter fully, the landscape and flash LEDs stayed on screen and it wouldn't trigger the shutter mechanism. I followed the 'Fixing a Yashica T AF' video everyone references on YouTube and it fixed it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b6lZ79NcCE this one). I found that afterwards the problem came back, but after a gentle shake it recovered and the shutter fired with autofocus and everything.
Now a new problem happened at the very end of my roll of Colorplus. I fired the shutter and without me noticing, the plastic lens cover which retracts just before the camera fires the shutter for a photo (protecting the lens) stayed open. By the time I noticed it open and tried to fire it again, what happened was that the lens closed and opened quickly -- much like an action of triggering the shutter -- but the shutter did not move. At the same time, the half press autofocus and flash LED icons did not appear. At the very end of the roll, since the camera still advanced the film, I rewound it using the rewind slider at the button and at the end of the rewinding, I think the shutter action was triggered. I got home and opened the bottom. Sometimes when I rewind, at the end of the rewinding, it snags the lens cover mechanism and it closes and opens much like the above.
With the bottom plate off, I saw that there was a gear spinning to move the lens cover and the shutter mechanism to a position on the left. I moved it leftwards and it clicked into a position. I could fire the shutter with half-press and the LEDs well and good. Only thing is that when I fired, the gear didn't move the lens cover and shutter mechanism gears to the appropriate position again on the left. It needed to be clicked into place by being pushed just a milimeter. If I were to fire it normally I'd have to manually push those parts to the right places each time, with the bottom plate exposed.
Does anyone else have this problem? I see that many people have problems with the electronics or that simple issue fixed by that Youtuber (thank him too). I keep hearing stuff about lubing the gears up, but now I wouldn't know which gear to lubricate and which gear is the culprit if it even is about dried up oil lube or even rust. The camera is in good condition anyways! So... how sad. I have asked someone for help and I will have some advice but I am not certain.
