I had the same problem with mine recently. It was as if the screw was cemented in place. I heated the screw with a soldering iron to try to loosen it, and I put some penetrating oil on it and let that soak in, but nothing broke the lock. After coming close to stripping out the holes on the screw head, I finally gave up on getting the top off to clean the rangefinder. Recently, though, I bought some acetone (propanone), and I'm going to try a little of that to see if the screw was cemented in place and the acetone may loosen it. Good luck with your 14E.

Silly question probably, but--does that thing possibly unscrew clockwise?

YashicaGuy (cited above by lumiworx) says it unscrews counter-clockwise.

Here's the link to my repair album on Flickr. flic.kr/s/aHsjz8CrmK It's one of the simplest winder levers I've ever had to remove, so unless someone put thread locker on it there shouldn't be a problem. PF
