You would think that they could at least spell CARL correctly.

I'd forgive the mispellings, but I doubt I'd be happy if I paid $2k for it, and focus and aperture rings were both locked up tight, or it had a cracked element or etched-in fungus. People have a tendancy to overpay when they think there's a massive deal to be had, and on a no return or no refund item... I'd never pay more than a rock bottom parts price.

The auction ended with a final bid of $988.00. That will be a bargain price if it turns out to be in good optical and fully functioning condition, but I doubt we'll find that out unless the same serial numbered lens suddenly shows up on any of the popular sales or auction sites. Well... that, or one of our own esteemed members turns out to be the winninng bidder.

I don't know about the GOODWILL auctions, but the GOODWILL stores (NOT their OUTLETS) give full "refunds" on any item. It has to be brought back within a week, and in the same condition, and you only get store credit, but that's pretty good. A couple of years ago, I got a COMPLETE Minolta 8Mp A2 digital outfit for $10 -- in MINT condition. I assumed it was dead, so with their guarantee, I took the chance. I charged up the included battery with the included charger, read the 200-page included manual -- and it works perfectly. I still have it.
I picked up a Nikon COOLPIX 5600 at another GOODWILL for $3 -- same story, but without any goodies. Also a great TINY digital camera with a 35-105 zoom -- and a zooming viewfinder!
Did I need any of these? NO!!! But they were basically FREE!!!
