Hello Forum,
i know, it's not Yashica, or Contax. But as others posted here into the Forum, does someone have a Clue, how-to fix my X300s? The Thing is, batteries are being depleted asap, i haven't used it during the past couple Years, before it was still working flawlessly.
Do i need to exchange the Elko, which means Condensator here? It's that "infamous" Issue, all X-Series Minoltas do suffer from, i am aware of this.
I can't make an Exposure, the Shutter won't press, and i can't use the Film Advance Lever anymore, that is my current Problem with the X-300s. You might ask, why this cheap SLR? Way simple, i like it's huge Viewfinder, like on my X-Series, most prominent is the X-700 Minolta, which i do use mostly. But for somewhat insecure Locations and Stuff, the X-300s with a cheap Prime Lens was my go-to Camera, until some Years ago.
Much thanks for your help.

I'm familiar with the "bad" capacitor problem, but I've never heard of it being related to battery drain. It either works or it doesn't. I have no idea what could be causing a battery drain, but changing the capacitor is a good idea anyway -- and who knows, it might solve the problem. Another approach is just to get a replacement -- not necessarily a Minolta. I just bought a Phoenix P-2000 with a GREAT Minolta Rokkor-X 50mm f1.7 for $20 on EBAY. I'll sell the lens for $20, and keep the camera (an X-300/X-370 clone) for free!!!!
I'm not recommending a P-2000 for you -- it has a meter, but lacks auto exposure -- but the P-3000 does, as I recall.
There are LOTS of other Minolta X-370 clones that you can get for basically the cost of shipping -- or about the cost of a new capacitor (although you might need to buy new batteries).
And a LOT of these X-370 clones have features that the X-370 didn't have -- like a DOF button, a T shutter speed setting, multi-exposure capability, TTL flash metering, etc.

I know, i am mostly shooting my X700, X500 into manual Mode, like my FX3 Yashica. I like my X300, X300s for special needs, unsecure Locations. Since the 90s, there are a Gazillian Clones of the original Minolta X300/s Bodies out there, even a lot of Chinese Copies.

Right now on EBAY, GOODWILL is auctioning a Centon DF-300 (X-300 clone) for $20 with a genuine Minolta (post Rokkor) 50mm f1.7 lens. I'm tempted since I can sell the lens for more than that, and keep the camera for free -- but I already have a Centon DF-300. Decisions, decisions......

I am currently shooting my X700 with Lots of Fun. No, i don't want a non-genuine Clone, of the X300 Series. The 50/1.7 is pretty much Standard, have it too. I love to shoot Contax into 1st Place, then comes Yashica...then long time nothing...after that, Minolta and Konica.

It's long known Issue. I've repaired 2 X700, and one X300 with that Issue. For the record, my X-300s does have other Issues, i am not aware of, therefore i've just bought another one.

The X300s is now my so called bad Weather or "junk" Camera. Nothing bad meant, it's great, it does make like every 35mm fine Pictures, but i never abuse my Gear, but this 10 Bucks SLR comes into handy, when making Pictures into worse Weather, or into unsecure Locations, Places. I won't miss, drop, or abuse my as new black XD7 Minolta for this..and after 1993, i do now own a 2nd XD7 black, which looks new, 2nd Iteration, sold my XD7 "Mk. I"

Maybe we all have a "Bad Weather" camera. Mine is a Minolta Hi-Matic G2 with a very nice f2.8 38mm lens. The lens focuses to three feet, and exposure is fully automatic -- showing the f-stop in the viewfinder. VERY small (think Yashica ME-1) and lightweight, but it has a hot shoe -- perfect for my TINY Vivitar 50 manual-only flash (the G2 has a GN lens). I don't care if it floats down the river or gets stolen because I can replace it for about $5.
