I'm not sure if this should be in this section or in the other, general "CAMERAS" section.
I ran across this KENKO 35mm SLR with a Yashica/Contax lens mount:
Anyone familiar with it?
I know there were other NON-Yashica/Contax 35mm SLR cameras with a Yashica/Contax lens mount, such as the Braun SR2000Y, and some Phenix (NOT Phoenix) models, but it would be interesting if someone has put together a list.

I think he's very optimistic/unrealistic about that Buy It Now price - especially as it's not mint or boxed! I wonder for how much he would actually sell it...

It looks like it's not the only one for sale, but at least it's the cheaper of the 2... $577.00 US, from JapanThe difference between them being the molded handgrip on the higher priced one. I find it odd that both are marked as the same model number of KF-3YC, and neither one is marked for export with the 'China' or 'Made in China' stamping on the case that's required by the US and several other countries.

That's basically a Yashica Super 2000. Made in China by Phenix in the same factory as the later (and maybe earlier) Super 2000 and re-badged. Internally identical. There's also a version of it with Nikon mount. Maybe others. There's another version, again Kenko badged with the Nikon mount, that had the 1/4000 shutter in it as used in the Contax S2/S2b and the Nikon FM2.

The moulded grip is the same one as used on the Centon K100, another camera from the same factory. Phenix made many variants of similar cameras with minor differences. Maybe not marked 'made in China' as they were sold by Kenko who are Japanese. I have a Phenix DC303, which was sold worldwide and was definitely made in China, that has no markings either.

It's interesting to note that the more expensive version with the contemporary, sculpted grip is supposed to originate from Japan according to the Ebay description. Perhaps that may be the case given the significant difference in appearance from the other Kenko version which is itself identical to the Phenix and Braun models. I wonder if Kenko brought over a few hundred FX-3 Super 2000-clones and re-skinned them, allowing them either to put Made in Japan on the camera; or if, as you have spotted, there is no country of origin, I suppose it may have been made purely for the Japanese market. I do like the look of the sculpted version - but not enough to pay anywhere near the asking price!

That "Kenko" (i do have some UV Filters from Kenko - they're like subtle cheaper Hoya Series) is a clone of my Yashica FX-3 Super 2000. Huh, Peter said it earlier, exactly. ;-) There was also a Super 2000 FX-3 Clone with PK (Pentax K Mount) Bajonet, long ago...i've forgotten the brand. I do prefer the original, have 2 Super 2000 in minty condition, and shooting with it...so i don't need to change Lenses.

I do like the look of the sculpted version - but not enough to pay anywhere near the asking price! Phenix made it with the rubber grips but with a PK mount. They sold it as the DC303K. Here's one on ebay now. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Phenix-DC-303k-Vintage-SLR-camera-FOR-PARTS-OR-SPARES/223926377535?hash=item34230d5c3f:g:BggAAOSwnkReU9oi[/quote]So pretty sure that's where the grips came from. I don't think Kenko ever made anything.

A German presentation from 2008: www.photoscala.de/2008/08/22/alte-bekannte/ including a list of clones (maybe still some missing) and some YASHICA-history. (For translation I recommend deepl instead of google translator.)

I wonder what their evidence was for the statement that the FX-3 was "obviously at least temporarily manufactured by Cosina."
Also, the Cosina 'relatives' listed are all (OK, I haven't checked every one) built on the Cosina CT-1 chassis which has nothing to do with Yashica so not really 'relatives' at all.

I see it doesn't have the flash ready contact. Presumably because Braun had no compatible flashes. Does it have the horizontal or 45 degree split prism? And does the ISO range correlate with the Super 2000?

I see it doesn't have the flash ready contact. Hihi, my PHENIX DC-303 has a flash ready contact ... but there is no cable leading to this contact. In addition there are 13 times printed from B / 1 / ... /2000 but there are only 12 stops ...

And does the ISO range correlate with the Super 2000? Hi - it has a 45 degree split prism unlike the Yashica FX-3 2000 Super. It has the same ISO range: 25-3200 and unlike matthiasausk's Phenix model, it has all 13 stops on the speed dial. It's a nice, basic camera.
