I've never run across an issue like this, and am wondering if others have - and if it's a frequent issue, with (hopefully) a workable fix.
I've acquired a Contax RX in pretty good overall condition. It has a bit of the usual bleed issue with the LCD readout, but otherwise it's fine cosmetically and handling-wise for a user. The issue deals with the in-viewfinder readout that will not budge to show anything but f/32 for any/all exposure modes. The body will fire at any speed it's set to when in manual mode, but metering is miles away from accurate from the stuck aperture no matter what mode it's in. I'm assuming that I could use it with an external meter in manual mode, yes... but that's not my preference.
Every lens that works perfectly on my other RX and other C/Y bodies will not provide its set aperture correctly on this body - so - I know at least that it's not operator error or missing pins on the lenses. It may still be a mechanical issue internally if some linkage is outta whack, or it might be an electrical issue with the metering circuits.
Hints, clues, experiences or advice... ?

If someone has worked on the camera, and removed the lens mounting flange for some reason, they could have gotten it too tight when putting it back on, and now the control ring is stuck at minimum aperture. You could loosen the screws that hold the mount, then tighten them back down in increments checking to see if the readout in the viewfinder changes.
Understand I've never even looked at an RX, so I'm just taking a guess using knowledge of other cameras I've worked on. Contax could have some other means of controlling the aperture in the RX that I am not aware of, so proceed at your own risk. However, this is the area I would investigate first. After that, you'd have to go deeper into the camera to find a solution. It could just be dirty under the lens mount flange, which would also hang the aperture control ring.

This issue has cropped up a couple of times on other forums as an unanswered question - so - at least it's known to occur, but maybe not frequently. ridgeblue99 ... You were on the right track. The ring on this camera was forced into a position that put the tab at about 180+ degrees from where it would normally be. I assume a previous user had jammed it there when trying to mount or unmount a crappy lens and it got stuck in-place. A firm nudge in the right direction got it unstuck - but - some damage was done to something when it was jammed. It will now catch the aperture pin and move on it's spring-loaded path, but it is still off by a couple of stops and has a tendency to 'flicker' between the wrong f-stop values as it moves. It may not be possible to fix if there are missing teeth or some other damage that requires replacement parts.

That's too bad. Saw one "As Is" body on eBay. It was $79.99 plus $15 shipping from Japan, and has a mirror sticking up issue. If you sent yours for repairs to someone who had the parts, it would be more money than that. Supposedly it all works fine except for the mirror issue. I'll PM you the sale link.

Lucky me! Got a RX from japan for less than 100€ (incl customs) which works pretty well!
