I was delighted to receive this old camera today. The J-4 is probably the hardest body to find as it had a very short production run of around 8 months in 1965; oddly, it followed the J-5 and was in effect a cut-down version of it with a top speed of only 1/500s.
This one is working fine - even the meter is accurate which is most unusual in these old bodies.

Congrats!
But ...
> The J-4 is probably the hardest body to find
I´d rather would award this to the FFT ...

Congrats! But ... > The J-4 is probably the hardest body to find I´d rather would award this to the FFT ... That is a pretty fair comment.
I still don't understand why Yashica made the FFT as it was the last M42 body they produced but they were already well into pre-production of the FX-1 and were heavily marketing the TL Electro series. My FFT is a nice, no-frills solid camera of the old school but I can't see the logic in its existence. The only practical downside of the FFT, unlike the J-4, is that I can't find a manual for it... The only advertisements I've seen for the FFT were in Japan so I suspect that not many made it to Europe - unless anyone here knows otherwise....

I'm delighted to have found yet another of these elusive Yashica J-4 cameras. J-4_Auto Yashinon 5cm f2Even back in the 1960s they were hard to find as so few were made. But it is always worth having a back-up or two as the meter can be temperamental; luckily I still have two that are working properly. It's a very workman-like camera, with a shutter that seems to go on for ever.

OK - I know I shouldn't but I couldn't resist a third J-4... It arrived hot-foot from Japan today along with an Auto Yashinon-DX 50mm f2 and a 135m f2.8 Auto Yashinon-DX with its case. J-4 Auto Yash-DX 50 f2 135 f2.8The camera is working and the lenses are pristine. I merely have to substitute the Asahi Pentax cold-shoe adapter for a Yashica one and the set will be complete. It arrived as part of an auction lot accompanied by a Canon AL-1 with a FD 50mm f2 lens; what makes this interesting is a comparison of its mirror with that on the Yashica FX-A... More on that anon....
