Hello,
I'm Peter from the Netherlands, or Holland, 53 years old, ex photojournalist ( for 25 years ).
Found a FR + ML 2.8 28mm, ML 1,7 50mm and a 3,5 200mm Sigma with a minimum distance of only 0,85m.. for little money.
I immediatly fell in love with the quality of the FR.
Unfortunatelly my shutter seems to be damaged (Still functions though), the diafragm needle in the viewfinder stopped working ( was slow at first ) alltogether, and I believe the filmcounter is long gone... The mirror starts falling down more often now, as it kept being stuck..
I guess this camera wasn't used much too long.... :-(
Ah, of course the lightseales have to be replaced....
And I'm on the lookout for an FRI... Maybe a RTS... But I rather like the Yashica, because it is so underrated. I like that. Wolf in sheepsclothes, or something like that. The FR is one hell of a pro camera.
Regards,
Peter

I ordered some convertorrings from China, to try out the ML's on my Digi Canon and also some Y/C to Nex convertors, so you all know what direction I'm also going....

Welcome to the Forum, Peter! I see you've already found a fix for your FR. From what I've seen and read about the series, they may be best used as shelf queens. I've got an FR II with winder and CS-20 flash unit that is fulfilling that role.

image hostingDSB, I know... But 18 euro's... And an F4 lens.. At least I can start to shoot most stuff I like. Really want to learn about the quality of my Yashica gear. I do own 3x EOS 1n ( 2 incl Boosters ) and L-glas..... But I do like the simplicity of mechanical camera's like the Nikon Fm2n or my Revue ( Cosina ) SC4 :-) and of course the FX-3 ...

I joined this forum a few days over a month ago and managed to aquire this list in the meantime:
2x FX-3, FR (doorstop), SIGMA 21-35mm, 28ML, 35ML, 50ML 1.7, 50ML 2.0, 55 2.0 DSB, 135ML, 135 DSB, 70-210 4.0 DSB, Vivitar series 1 (Tokina) 70-210 3.5, Minister D, Yashica bag
I have to say that I really like the quality feel of the ML stuff. The FX-3 not so much. A bit plastic... But ok for now.
I'm amazed by the speed I was able to gather all the above. And for little money too... 30 euro was the most I spent ( Sigma ). All other lenses were between 12,50 and 20 euro. Camera's 18 and 20 euro, while the 20 euro one came with th 50 f2 ml and a Yashica bag as well. Okay, the lightseals need some attention and the last FX has a peeling skin. The 135ML needed a drop of oil.... The Viv needed some help to get going again, bc it was a little stiff. Now it is fine.
I do have 3 EOS 1n and some L glass, but I prefer these small mechanical stuff. It helps me in street- and candid photography. People will not recognise me as a "real" photographer, bc I use old unknown gear. That can't be serious ( enough to be afraid off :-) ) I.t.m. my results could be top quality.
I once owned Pro Nikon gear. F4s-es an FM2n and FE2 both with MD12 and 24 Ais. 35 1,4 Ai, 50 1,4 Ais, 86 1,4 Ais and 80-200 AF 2,8 .... I sold it all to finance an (1) EOS D30,.... really :-( Crazy...
I really would love to still have my Nikon gear, but hey, those times are gone....
Gathering my Yashica gear also means that I'm creating momentum to get going again. All my darkroom stuff is packed up the attick.. So likely the coming months I will have a peak there to collect some most needed gear to develop my own film again...
I really hope to get that feeling again, I left behind 16 years ago.
Thanks for reading this :-)

I'm not there YET... But gaining momentum to get there for sure. I do not have to live of off my photography anymore. That makes it more free now and thus more enjoyable I presume. :-) I can shoot whatever I like most. Namely the expressions of peoples feelings. That's what I really like to shoot and share. I need to express what I feel. Pictures reveal that better than my words can...

You're okay so far, Peter. Since you have the Yashica gear now, you can sell the Canon, and buy some Nikon stuff again. ;-)

Can't do that :-) ( I use the L glass on digital too ) It's my pro-stuff.. Meaning I have to earn money with it. Well, I made the choice to step over to Canon, from Nikon. Going back again is throwing money down the drain again. I learned my lesson well. :-) I do have some Pentax gear however. That might get sold.

So yesterday, at the end of the afternoon, I finally went out to shoot all my Yashica glass ( including the Sigma and Vivitar ).
I thought I would be shooting at F 5,6 and F 8 too, but the light was going away much to soon. So now I am left with a film with most of the shots fully open, or F 4 to F 3,5....
But hey, I think I mostly will shoot with lenses around fully openend. My glass has to perform there....
1 or 2 shots left and my film can be developed :-)
To my suprise I did not had the habit of trying to see the pic at the back of the camera :-)
Now off to the store to get that film developed in two hours :-)
