Yashica Minister-D by br1078phot, on Flickr Introduced in 1964, the minister-D came in two lens versions, a 1.9/45 Yashinon, and a 2.8/45 Yashinon. Both were mounted in a Copal-SVL shutter with speeds from 1 sec to 1/500 + B, and taking 46mm filters, and a 48mm clamp-on hood. It has an un-coupled CdS metering system utilizing the EVS exposure settings. In my opinion, it has one of the best manual overrides of the EVS settings, which I prefer, as most of the time I ignore the meter. The minister-D is a well balanced camera, with all the controls in logical arrangement. The winding lever sticks out too much, but is the only fault I could find with the overall design. It takes the PX625A cell, which I've replaced with a 657 zinc-oxide, along with a steel washer to take up space in the battery well. The meter is a bit jumpy, so I may need to replace the steel washer with a brass one. I don't trust the meter design (porthole window on front of camera to left of viewfinder) in contrasty situations, but in shade it worked just fine. There is a parallax corrected bright frame-line in the viewfinder, and I'm awaiting my first roll to see how accurate it is for coverage. PF

Got the test shots back yesterday. There is a light leak at the door hinge, so I'll need to be putting in new seals. The meter works good, the EVS system is the easiest I've ever used, and the camera has a well balanced feel about it. Aside from the light leak, she's looking great, Phil. Is the EVS system on the D the same as on the original M?

Aside from the light leak, she's looking great, Phil. Is the EVS system on the D the same as on the original M? It looks to be the same, though with a bit wider response as compared to the selenium meter of the M. I need to open up the M to free up the delay timer, and get the shutter working again. And it's going to need seals too. PF
