Hello all
I own a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135mm f2.8 and Distagon 35mm f2.8 which are both affected by fungus.
Being quite mechanically minded and also very curious, I want to try to fix the problem myself. I have watched quite a few videos on youtube as well as read a lot of repair guides for various lenses. Unfortunately I found nothing regarding the two lenses in question.
Does any of you have or know about any repair guide or have further information about how these are mechanically built? (technical drawings, exploded view etc.) I don't want to just try and risk destroying anything even though i'm well aware that these lenses can be replaced quite cheaply.
Thank you very much in advance!

Hello and welcome to the Forum!
I've not had cause to disassemble either of these primes so I'm not sure I can bring much enlightenment. However, accessing the elements behind the aperture assembly is pretty much the same with most C/Y Zeiss primes and as you have discovered, there are quite a few instructional videos showing this. I'm sure you're already aware of the warnings about keeping an eye on the springs and the ball-bearing...
Where it might be more tricky is in the removal of the front elements; with most Zeiss lenses, unscrewing the dress ring at the front gives you access to the various retaining rings BUT there are a few which require you instead to unscrew the front of the barrel. Get it wrong and you're in trouble. Unless someone else here has experience of taking either of these lenses apart, I would recommend checking out the Contax Zeiss Lens User Group on Facebook. They're an equally friendly bunch and have among their members people with quite a bit of repair experience.
Sorry I can't be of more direct help.

I'm not anywhere near my lenses to check personally on opening them, but I would like to offer something on cleaning fungus. If there's enough of it present to affect photos, it may have been infected for long enough to etch the glass, and once that happens it is unlikely any effort to remove it will succeed. I'd suggest to mount them on digital to test if you can, or perhaps ' free-lens' them if you don't have an adapter... but attempt to find out how usable they might be as-is before spending time/money and wasting either or both.
