Hello Everyone I recently purchased an Electro 35 GSN with a non-working shutter. I was expecting a "Pad of Death" issue but the problem turned out to be the Low Shutter Speed lens had fallen inside the body and was jammed in the shutter mechanism. I removed it and it seems to be working for now. Still waiting on a battery and adapter and a set of light seals before I put film in it. However my question is this, is there any way to lube or re-grease the focus ring mechanism (helicoid)? It seems a little tight in some spots, I can use it the way it is but would like to back up to factory spec. Thanks in advance.

Hello Tom, and welcome to the forum...
If it's just a case of aging grease that's hardened and settled on the low point from sitting on a shelf, try to loosen it up by repeatedly turning it to both extreme ends of it's range in rapid motions for several dozens of turns.
If there's no change in ease of motion and speed, there isn't much to do other than re-grease the helical with an appropriate lubricant made for the task. A less expensive type that's generally available from the maker or even on Amazon or eBay is from Japan Hobby Tool and it comes in several viscosities. There's an Electro 35 repair manual available in our repository that will offer some exploded views and guidance, here: cdn.yashicaforum.net/wl/?id=4Wj8v3mSm8Fm7Jj5M4gQY2CJz1Sy8844

Thanks for replying Lumiworx. Right now the camera is useable with the focus ring being a little stiff in spots. So far I've put two rolls of B&W through it to see how it performs. First roll showed that there were light leaks so I replaced the seals. The second roll shows the light leaks have been fixed. The negative densities look good as well so all in all I'm happy with the way its working for the time being. However there is one thing that looks a bit strange, on the first roll there was one frame with no exposure on it and on the second roll there were two frames with no exposure on them? Any ideas on what could cause this? Could it be a POD issue? TIA.

As I understand it, there are cases that cameras with POD problems can exhibit incorrectly calibrated shutter speeds, which could include a scenario where it was much faster or slower than required for a correct exposure, leaving vastly underexposed or overexposed frames... www.yashica-guy.com/document/repair.html#nine
There's another possibility. The default speed will be 1/500th if for any reason the meter circuit fails, even intermittently, so it's possible that the frame was exposed badly but not 'missed'.

When I look at the blank frames with a loupe I can't even find the slightest trace of silver. It's almost like the lens cap was on but I'm certain that's not the case. For this next roll of film I will pay more attention to the sounds the camera make on each frame and see if that tells me something. Other than that I'm completely blown away by the detail I can see in the frames and how well they are exposed. These are awesome little cameras.
