Picked up this FX-D ina charity shop recently. Camera and 3 lenses for £35 - sold as "non working". Owning the Contax 139 I realised that the shutter won't fire without good batteries. £4 for 2 x batteries ans she works just fine. Did the light seals and shot off a roll of HP5 at the weekend. As soon as Mr postman delivers the developer I have on order I'll process it and see what I get!

The whole lot for 35 pounds? Now that's what I call a bargain (the ML 2.8 alone is worth more than that).
But £4 for two batteries?? - I get more than fifty of these at my local Woolworth store for that money (sure, Chinese no-name cheapos, but what the heck, the FX-D will stop working altogether before the meter starts malfunctioning. I always keep an extra pair of LR44s taped to the neck strap.)
BTW: I've got a couple of FX-Ds and love them (I find the meter to be more reliable than that of the far-famed Nikon F3), but no idea what "SE" might mean...
regards
Michael

If my memory is roughly right, the SE (Special Edition) simply referred to the camera being bundled with the 42-75 zoom (and occasionally the FX Winder). The camera is identical to the FX-D in every other aspect; the instruction manual had a yellow SE overprint on the cover. It was a lovely combination.

I see--thanks for the info. So glad there isn't yet another 'must-have' Yashica I hitherto wasn't aware of... Michael

I just happened to check my SE against a standard FX-D and remembered that I'd answered a question on the topic some while back. There are actually 2 differences: the split-image centre spot in the viewfinder is diagonal instead of horizontal and the rear plate has a film transport indicator in a small window below the cable release socket.
Apologies again...

Grahan wins again! really fine catch, i must say. The ML 28/2.8 alone costs more, and the ML 42-75 Zoom also does cost usually 20-40 bucks alone...albeit it's focal range is very narrow & limited, i do know that it's IQ if i remember it back was quite good, for a Zoom...but even though, i prefer my 28-50 ML.... As for being a Zoom, back into it's day, 42-75mm was an odd Zoom Range, but so it was also with the Contax Zeiss 40-80mm, which was their 1st Zoom for C/Y Mount.
