Pentax is working on the idea of bringing a series of film cameras to market! linkThank you for the link. It is interesting to note that specific mention is made of crowdfunding. Ricoh certainly had a long history of producing all manner of 35m cameras as well as a variety of models in formats from 110 to 6x6 so allying one of their classic designs to modern components and production methods should be well within their compass. Of course, it could be fun if they come up with a completely new concept though I suspect it will revolve around 35mm film. However, it's worth remembering that Fuji found a dedicated following when they released some medium format gear not that long ago..

Pentax is working on the idea of bringing a series of film cameras to market! linkI just gave away my K1000 the other day. Not sure where Pentax/Ricoh is going to go with this. They don't have the folks who knew how to make the cameras. It's quite a different process from designing and building a digital camera, though I would think there are some synergies and systems that would be compatible with either type of camera. Many of their parts suppliers from the film days are no longer in business, and even though they may have archived all the specifications do they still have the tooling necessary to create an assembly line? Doubtful to say the least. I wish them well in this endeavor, but don't be surprised if what comes out of it is more akin to a Point-and-Shoot than an SLR or Rangefinder. PF

They may have a tried and true method to fall back on that gives them an opportunity to quickly get something to market and worry about a fresh all-new design later. Cosina might still have the capability to pull one of their base models out and refresh them for both manual focus and AF setups. This is something they eluded to within their announcement, and it is a reasonable path to get started with. I'm really surprised someone hasn't teamed up with Cosina and done this already. I searched for their history of doing this and came across an old Yahoo Groups listing of 70-ish cameras that included models for every major camera brand. Nikon retired two of them in the late 2000's - the FE10/FM10 - and one for Yashica that we all know well, as the FX-3 Super 2000... plus all the derivatives in C/Y and other mounts that were basically simple rebrands with some color options.

It would not come as much of a shock if we end up with another FX-3 Super clone with a PK mount!
