This is the plain vanilla version with no AF. With one shutter speed and two ASA choices and no rangefinder view, it is certainly simplistic in function (and cheap in price to match), but it does have a great design aesthetic and simple lines like a certain 'red-dot' camera would have I'm not the point-n-Shoot type, but I have to say the folding/collapsing front assembly with a wide-ish 38mm drew me in. Judging by the Lomography gallery set up to showcase it, it's not a bad pocket shooter either.

Nice little camera. One thing I don't understand is the Lomography connection. Maybe I just don't quite "get" "lomography". I was under the impression that it meant cheap, low-quality results, but a lot of cameras that are referred to as "LOMOCAMS" produce great photos.
Right now, on EBAY, there are a half dozens NON-AF Partners. One seller refers to it as part of the LOMOCAM craze -- which makes no sense to me -- but prices are all over the place from $40 to $140. Makes no sense to me!
Too bad they didn't make one without the built-in flash.

The LOMO tag seems to gets added to hardware by anyone that sees these compacts as having a simplistic or toy-ish quality in functionality, and I see the film stock quality as the more defining term, but there certainly can be iffy hardware that drags down the printed results. I don't know if I'd equate that term to the Partner as a general rule, unless it was loaded with long expired color film, or truly lackluster emulsions that are well know to be inconsistent on their best day... or they're formulated to look that way on purpose. After a quick search, I found some pricing data to put this in context with some of it's siblings... Popular Photography - June 1984 - Adorama ad: Five Star AF w/case: $109.95 Partner w/ case: $44.95 Partner AF w/ case: $74.95 FX-70 w/ f/2: $119.95 FX-3 w/ f/2: $99.95

Those are very interesting and humorous prices. If "LOMO" simply means small cameras with very simple/limited controls/functions, there are a million LOMO cameras out there -- but I wouldn't include any camera that has a built-in flash or auto-focusing. My definition would leave the new "Kodak" Ektar H35 out -- but it sure is simple. Have you heard about this one? www.35mmc.com/category/news-ideas/news-events/

Xkaes ... It's been a long time since I visited that site, but more than a few of the mentions on there are all news to me. I'm not surprised that I haven't heard of the companies represented on most of them, as several of the 'big boys' want to stay away from any future endeavours in film. Nikon drops the F6 (made by Cosina?) and yet Leica says it can't keep up with demand on the 2 film models they still make, so there really is a mix of attitudes on hardware. Kodak brings back old film stock and some dropped film speeds (i.e., T-Max ISO 3200), Fuji does an about face on dropping Acros and decides to bring it back in an improved emulsion (for a higher price, of course), and old and long-dead companies like Orwo are ramping up production on fresh new film products. It's anybody's guess on what's next, but film - or film cameras - are not on death's door.

Film is far from dead -- as many predicted twenty years ago.
Disco, on the other hand, I HOPE that IS dead.
Let's see. Do I have any BEEGEE's albums hanging around?I might get some good cash for them!!!!
