In all my years of looking at Contax and Yashica gear, I had not seen a piccie of all three versions of the Pentamatic together. So, let's correct this oversight through this Forum.... Yashica Pentamatic familyThose with eagle-eyes my have spotted that the rare Pentamatic II in this piccie is different from the one in the PII thread; this one's lens has no issue with a stuck, rusted filter! Mercifully, despite their rarity, I was lucky enough to find a another copy of the camera.

There's a different rewind on the one on the left, but is that a self-timer on the one on the right?

The photo is slightly misleading as all 3 cameras feature the same rewinder; however, I have left the one on the left in its retracted position so that you can see the cold shoe. If you look at the other two, you can see the guide rails for the cold shoe either side of the rewind knob which in its active position. The last version of the Pentamatic, the S, was the only one to feature a self-timer. Yashica offered self-timers for the others as an optional accessory.

Is the viewfinder on the Pentamatic as dim as the subsequent Penta J ? These Pentamatics certainly look very nice indeed.

Hello adr I have just popped 50 1.7 lens on a Penta J and compared it visually with the 58mm f1.7 on the Pentamatic II and I can't see much difference though neither is particularly dull. Admittedly, they are not as bright as more modern cameras. I will try to check the light at the eye-piece using a Minolta Booster II to see if there is a significant difference. On cameras of this age, the roof pentaprism can sometimes require a clean to restore its light-transmission to optimum levels.
