This is a new model to me; I had not heard of it until I saw this one: the Yashica Microzoom 118. Yashica Microzoom 118You can see how compact it is when viewed next to the roll of film. Despite its diminutive size, it handles well and the AF is surprisingly speedy; no doubt that 'Multi AF' symbol has something to do with the performance. It won't win any prizes for sophistication but the 38-118mm lens has a 7/6 construction and is supposed to be a decent performer; shutter speeds range from 2s to 1/300s. Being largely automated, it really is a point-and-shoot ultra-compact model but it has real charm.

When I first saw this model back in ~2003, it was from a low resolution internet shot and I struggled to resolve whether it was 118 or a more "conventional" 115. Eventually I found a slightly better shot that confirmed that it was a 118! It hails from 1999 when there were Zoomate/Elite/Brava 115 models available also .... so there was some head-scratching for a while! It's great to see a real "good" shot of it! You are getting quite a collection of these little P&S 35mm cameras ... It would be good if eventually you could arrange a group portrait .... possibly in ascending date order ... to see how the styles and sizes developed just before Digital killed that section of the 35mm format. There are probably not too many people who could do that ... but you might just be "the man" I, for one, would love to see such a pictorial comparison!

I no longer live in a house large enough for big group shots but I'll see what i can do in the next week or so.
