First post here , anyone ever seen a professional with just a sticker on the back and no front badge. some research indicates this is a very rare camera released as a market test. Also has 4 screws instead of the usual 3 on the bottom plate . Has some minor issues but plan to restore as a functioning unit .

It is one of the least common variants of the Electro 35 but there are a few of them about and they do pop up on Ebay and Catawiki from time to time. The two I saw being auctioned this year had the dreaded POD issue. The jury is still out on whether the model was released as a market test as there seem to be too many about for it to have been simply a trade sampler but it's certainly possible. Whatever the reason, it remains a rare model. It certainly would merit restoration as you will end up with a great rangefinder; also, if restored sympathetically with the correct components, it will always have a market among collectors due to its comparative rarity.

I can't remember if mine is like that or not. It's been in a plastic bin waiting for me to do something to it like POD repair or light seals, and right now is out of reach without a half hour of rearranging things. But something makes me think it is as you describe, with the exception of the bottom plate as I don't recall how many screws it has. Not a bad starting model if you plan on collecting the series.

Dug mine out of the pile. No sticker on front Four screws in bottom plate Yashica Electro 35 Professional by P F McFarland, on Flickr Sticker on back. Note serial number (8029176) placement. Yashica Electro 35 Professional by P F McFarland, on Flickr Could use some work. Yashica Electro 35 Professional by P F McFarland, on Flickr Some day I'll get me a proper surround for the Over/Under Indicator lights. PF
Notes: From what I've been able to glean from researching the usual sources, this would be the first version of the Professional, of which which there were four. The second version moved the "Professional" sticker to the front, the serial number was moved to under the film advance lever, and the three screw bottom plate was introduced. Version three increased the ASA to 500 with an improved dial design. Version four is based on the G series so it has the "G Yashica" front logo under the meter window, ASA goes to 1000, and the bottom plate no longer has the scoop-out for film loading (I'll assume it has the new "Pull up rewind to release" back lock).

Can't see the rangefinder mask window in the first photo. Is it diamond-shaped, like all later Electro 35s, or rectangular, like the earliest version?

I changed the first photo because it didn't show where the Professional logo wasn't. Didn't realize I then lost the rangefinder window view.

The evolution of those early Electro 35s is interesting to me. PF, except for the light plate yours is very clean for a black camera of that era. Beautiful!

Oh, it's got a lot of little dings and scratches that don't show very well in the photos. It wasn't a well cared for camera. I think I bought it in a junque shoppe.

If anybody wants to get an Electro 35 Professional for 25 Euro, this is your chance, hurry up! I have a working GT. That's as far as I want to press my luck at this point.

I know the feeling, I have repaired the PoD in my 35G and, even when I learned a lot in the process, it is not something I would like to repeat, so from that point forward that I am only interested in the GTS and GTN models.

This lovely example of an Electro 35 Professional from 1966 has arrived hot-foot from the Land of the Rising Sun. Yashica Electro 35 ProfessionalIt is merely the black version of the camera; other than the colour and 'Professional' label, it is identical to the standard model. I confess that I prefer it in black; it somehow appears more elegant, at least to my jaded eyes.
