This substantial piece of studio kit was produced by Yashica over half-a-century ago - its Cordless Extension Unit.
Slave flash unit
We'd refer to it these days as a slave for a flash gun - a much larger piece of kit than those tiny, stand-alone slaves we're used to these days. Indeed most modern top-flight flashes have an inbuilt slave capability.

Very impressive. I assume that is a standard PC connection, so that it can be used --- basically anywhere.

I'm slightly disappointed though as I was hoping to find an ASA flash sync connector so I could use it with my YashicaFlex B but no such luck. I reckon that most flash units with ASA connectors will have been junked back in the late 1950s as the PC type became the norm. I wonder if the YashicaFlex B (not the later Yashicaflex B) was the last Yashica camera to be made with the ASA fitting?

However, I will need to keep searching as what I'm after is an ASA Bayonet to PC Female adapter cord - Paramount used to make them but, not surprisingly, with so little demand, I don't think their adapter is available any longer. But there must be one out there somewhere... In the meantime, I've written to Paramount to ask if they can create a one-off.
