Hi all, I have never posted here but I need some help...I recently dug our my Dad’s old camera. Through the viewfinder there is a loose black bar (with two small oval holes in it) moving around at the bottom of the image. When I tap the camera I can get it to move back the the Bottom of the frame. I think it’s in the viewfinder assembly. I know nothing about cameras thus this post! Is this a problem and can I fix it? I have taken a pic of it with my smartphone but can’t work out how to attach it to this thread... thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, lincsfarmer ... There might be an opaque mask that's come unglued or popped out of it's holder. I haven't taken apart an FX-2 to know for sure what type it may have - but - the mask usually provides the small C-shaped target for the meter needle to center itself in. If you look on page 13 in the manual ( from Mike Butkis' site) it shows the finder view where the needle is in between the upper '+' / lower '-' of the mask for a perfect exposure. If that isn't in the correct position or is missing when it jiggles... it's a mask issue. If it is, it will probably require pulling the top plate off to access the prism assembly. The mask would likely be underneath the prism, but on top of the focusing fresnel plate. You may not need to remove the block entirely to put a drop of rubber cement on the edge of the mask and get it to stick in place, but I don't think there's a way to get to the mask without some top plate 'surgery'. If the meter isn't working, it might be a lot easier (and cheaper) to replace the body than buying glue and tools to fix it... unless you have them on hand already.

Thanks that’s really helpful, i’ll Check that out. The meter works perfectly and the mask for the needle is solid; perhaps the bottom section has become detached? The camera was my dad’s pride and joy when I was a boy, he’s done now so I want to fix it if I can. Thanks for your help.

It's possible it uses a dual mask, where the +/- mask might stay in place and the thick outer rectangle is the 2nd mask that's loose. The same methods should apply to repair it. Unfortunately it's not one of those cameras that has a user-replaceable focus screen where you might have access from inside the mirror box.
Of the times I've had to remove a top plate to work on anything, I've had more than a few times where little 'bits' of something aren't secured in place, so it might be helpful to work on a bounce-free surface, where you don't loose small parts when they unexpectedly fall free of the friction that holds them in place. Also... if you don't have a good set of JIS screwdrivers (usually > $15 for a set of 5), they will pay for themselves in no time if you do several repairs over time.
There might be a member here that's done something similar, and/or has a parts diagram to go by for placements and attachment.

Fantastic thank you, i’ll Buy some screwdrivers too, I have a jewellers set but they aren’t very good quality. I’ll give it a go and take my time with it, thanks for the help 👍

You can download the assembly manual from my site at www.contax139.co.uk/documentation. Don't see any masks as such but there are a couple of springs that hold the condenser lens in place. Maybe one of those has come adrift.

I do have Viewfinder specific Issue with my FR-1 Yashica...since months. hereby the last part of it, the Metal square Frame, on which one does usually mount the rubber Eyecup, wobbles a few mm into all directions, also in and out...never encountered something like that, and even never onto my Contax, Yashica Gear at all.

I think we already answered that Marc in the other thread where you mentioned it. You need to remove the top plate and tighten the screws.
