You just have to hope that you don't need to replace the infamous 'pad of death' that is found on many Electro 35 cameras.... As we all know that have had to replace light seals and mirror dampers, foam can deteriorate over time and the foam in the 'pad of death' is no different. Fortunately, there's lots of info on how to replace it if necessary but hopefully you won't need to.

... and don't forget the battery issue with all Electro 35's. You'll need an adapter of some sort if you have a working meter you want to power.

Thanks, i've read about that battery adapter, and "pad of death" issue before bidding. Hope the Lightseals would being okay. The filterthread is a bit dented, so hopefully that issue can be fixed, in order to add a lens hood, and UV filter.

If there's a need to replace seals and foam, I can pass on some replacements that are cheaper and better than the usual foam 'kits' from ebay. For light seals... I use black wool or cotton yarn, held in place with toothpick dabs of the non-hardening rubber cement like you used in grade school. (The Elmer's bottle I just replaced was like $4 for 8 ounces... a lifetime supply for camera work). You can get #4 yarn at crafts stores ( or online) on huge rolls for less than the cost of a foam kit or two. Another lifetime supply in one single roll. Cut to length and then split/unravel the braid to get the right thickness. Here's a 2010 topic from the rangefinderforum on using it. For mirror pads, (and maybe the Pad-of-Death)... Piano Tuner's 'Nameboard' padding is a wool felt strip that works really well. They come in a few thicknesses and the small rolls are 52" by 1/2" or 5/8" wide. The black rolls in .3mm/.45mm are what I've used for several mirrors. I trim the width and length to match the top of the mirror box, then peel-n-stick with the pre-installed adhesive back. These are just shock absorbers, and don't need to be thick, and they won't crumble like foam does when it's old. I've used the strips for the light blocks on the edge of film doors too, so they have more than one use. I've yet to replace a missing pad inside an Electro 35, so I don't know if a cut-down strip could be used for them - but if it does, it too won't gum up the internals like foam. If they need to be thicker, some of the brown and red-colored strips are much thicker and the color doesn't matter.

Before you buy a battery adaptor, try to get the proper alkaline equivalent battery (A32PX). Here in the UK the availability is intermittent but they are available. At the time of writing this, the Small Battery Company has them in stock (they only ship to UK and Europe though). The A32PX is actually 4 off PX640A batteries strapped together so getting four of those should also work. Again, supply tends to be intermittent. The battery adapters usually use a PX28A which is totally incapable of delivering the current required by the Electro 35. The on load voltage drops to less than 4 volts and the minimum voltage for the Electro is 3.9V - at least, that's what the battery check circuit is set for. So it's not surprising the battery check lamp often doesn't work when a battery adaptor is used. If you can't get the A32PX, then consider the 4SR44 with the adaptor instead of the PX28A. The 4SR44 is a silver version of the PX28A and has slightly better performance. But the Electro 35 is very voltage tolerant and the camera is usable with a PX28A if that's all you can get. Much appreciated, Lumiworx. But i do think, this would get expensive, to ship to germany, whereas i am living? <sigh>. My dream was always, to own a decent Copy of the Electro 35 Rangefinder Series, any Variant would being fine, since my teenage days. Hopefully, the Circle closes into the next two upcoming weeks. Peter, thanks for this Info. I've seen also Tutorials onto YT, to clean the Viewfinder Window, if being needed..but i am afraid, i can't do that <Dave>...like HAL would being say... I don't have the necessary Tools, to open the Top Cover, and i'd being too shy for this. I can solder quite well, even SMD, since my Childhood, but i never repaired a Film Camera...

If it needs work, and you're not keen on DYI, then contact Russ at camerarefurb.com/ Yashica Electro's are his specialty. Another battery model that works is the 28A, but as with all versions you still need an adapter to take up the space in the battery well. You can either purchase one, or make your own out of plastic tubing, a wood dowel, and a nut and bolt arrangement to carry the circuit. PF

Hi Ridgeblue, i am from germany - so it'll being way costly, and a long weeks run, to sent something outside Europe, the US, for instance. Edit, your Link doesn't work inside my Firefox, loads a split second, and jumps back.

Could be he doesn't do camera work anymore, and just let his site sit unguarded. I thought he was a member here, but can't find a username for him. And yeah, getting anything sent from and to Germany is going to be expensive, especially if someone doesn't fill out the proper paperwork and you get stuck with the VAT.
By the way, if you want to contact Russ, he is member b1bmsgt. But he no longer repairs cameras. He sort of abandoned his site, and it's now been taken over by someone else who probably purchased the domain for nefarious reasons.

Hi PF, i do know Kameradoktor.de, and he sent me some months ago (2019) to some Pentax Guy, which is really being great, but unfortuntely, i didn't have had yet the chance, to sent him gear for repair. Will do into this year. About this Site "Hack", i do never have issues, only on here, with Picture FileAttachment, my Win10 Rig is always the latest Version, to the latest Patchlevel, always. Good Evening.

Good Evening. The site that is "hacked" is Russ Sisco's old camerarefurbdotcom site, but it appears from my conversation with him that he let the domain lapse, and someone else bought it to be able to scam those looking for repairs. As to the issue of directly uploading images to the Forum, Lumiworx is preparing a work-around for that, and soon you'll be able to do so again. But if you host your photos somewhere else such as Flickr, you can easily add photos by copying the BB code, and pasting it into your posts.
