It has taken a while but I've just got hold of a lovely, boxed F2 Bellows set to replace the one I lost in moving home.
Now I can rest easy on the bellows front as I have the F, F2 and the Contax Auto Bellows with its swing/tilt mechanism. One thing I've never managed to discover is who actually made these bellows systems...
Bellows F2
It's a pleasure to be able to shoot, focusing at full aperture, with the mechanically-shuttered Yashica FX-3/7 series plus Contax's S2/S2b and Preview cameras using that trusty old double cable release. (sorry I forgot to remove the kink in the bellows before taking the photo)

You'll probably hate me asking, biggles3, but... I have yet to find a Yashica branded focus rail for the F2 bellows I have. I haven't physically tried it yet, but the Contax rail appears to be a match. I don't have an 'F' or it's accessories to try it with. I'll have to pull out all the various parts to see what fits what. I've seen photos of the Yashica macro stand setup using 'a' rail, but when it's oriented in its upright position, the brand plate on the rail isn't visible. I assume there is a Yashica rail - and if there is - does it work across the board for the F, the F2, and the Contax tilt/shift bellows?

The Contax and Yashica Focusing Rails are fully interchangeable as are the Macro Stands and the Slide Copiers. I've taken a photo for you of the Focusing Rails for the Yashica F and Contax Auto Bellows - as I hope you can see, they are dimensionally identical with only minor cosmetic differences.
Focusing Rails
The same applies to the Macro Stand and Slide Copier. Oddly, the Yashica rail only mentions their F Bellows but I can assure you it works with both types.

While the Yashica 100mm bellows lens should be great with this bellows, the other macro lenses should work fine, too. I haven't checked, but I assume Contax made a bellows lens(es). I know they made some macros. But for closer work, don't forget the 40mm Yashica enlarging lens (f3.5?) with a Leica thread. I have a Yashica Ataron 21mm ENLA-UNIT that, and one of these days, I should try on my bellows. It also has a Leica thread.
I'm not sure if the 40mm and the 21mm are on the Yashica lens list, as I haven't looked at every page.

Thanks for the confirmation. It looks like it might be one of the more elusive pieces in my case. It was easier to find an Atoron tripod than one of these.

I know they made some macros. I think other lenses (in normal or reverse positions) should work fine, and certainly the standard 100mm does, when in normal position... but the balance of the whole setup is far more manageable when the bellows 100mm is used without any helical sleeves to add bulk and weight. The Makro Planar's would operate like the standard Yashica 100 does - although - there weren't any bellows-only lens from Zeiss that I'm aware of. The ' macro flowchart' doesn't show one... only referring to a generic 'T*' lens for bellows use, and using extension tubes for the Makro Planar's in place of the bellows/lens setup. There's no bellows-only lens listed in Zeiss's C/Y datasheets. I suppose one of the Zeiss microscope objectives could have been adaptable too. But for closer work, don't forget the 40mm Yashica enlarging lens (f3.5?) with a Leica thread. I have a Yashica Ataron 21mm ENLA-UNIT that, and one of these days, I should try on my bellows. All of the Atoron 21mm's I see on ebay are usually north of $1000, and more often than not, they're priced at $1500+ when they're in the boxed set with the film holder. I recall seeing a single 40mm enlarger lens for sale in the last 5-6 years, but don't remember how high the asking price was.

Yes - Zeiss also made a Bellows lens - the S-Planar 100mm f4 and it is formidable and requires careful handling; its dof at 1:1 is a mere 1/100th of an inch. It costs a lot when compared with the Yashica version yet between f8 and f22 there is no discernible difference in image quality. The Zeiss lens is much more substantial - larger and heavier - and uses a 6/4 optical formula whereas Yashica's lens is a 5/3. Neither lens has a helical but on a bellows both can be focused to infinity. Both are hard to find.

You're right. Now on EBAY, one is listed at $1,500 and another for $2,000. But someone has listed another as an "Atopon" for only $600!!!!
I guess I lucked out. I think I got mine for around $150 -- several years ago. It is in great shape, but no box -- just an Ataron/Minox film holder, which is all I need (and all they made). I have a spec sheet somewhere from Yashica if anyone needs/wants details. I can also provide photos.
The lens is marked "E-Yashinon DX" with f-stops from f3.5-16. Focusing is done on the ENLA, not the enlarger. It has its own, tiny condenser.
For more details on ENLA-UNITS see:
I'm surprised Tomioka didn't make more enlarging lenses -- and I have no idea if Contax/Zeiss did. I would not be surprised.

Hi xkaes,
Tomioka made a modest selection of enlarger lenses and the piccie below shows one of them attached to a Yashica FX-70...

Does it seem odd that only the 21mm and 40mm Tomioka enlarging lenses were labeled as "Yashica/Yashinon"? I would guess that sales would have been better with the Yashica brand, although the Tominon EL 135mm f4.5 seems to have been relatively popular.

Shame on me for not looking before posting. Graham's right... there was the S-Planar Bellows, and there is a datasheet. Here's some samples from a quick search, although not really all are 'macro shots'.

Seems odd that: www.photocornucopia.com/1061.htmlWhich seems pretty comprehensive (I've had to correct them on a couple of items), lists only ONE Yashica enlarging lens, and NO Tomioka enlarging lens at all. What am I missing? ?

What am I missing? ? I don't think you are missing anything - it's simply photocornucopia that may have a gap in their lists. I'm not sure just how many different Tominon lenses were made especially for enlarger use as opposed to use with 3rd party cameras such as some of the early Polaroid Land cameras. They seem interchangeable which may have confused the picture. I know the lens I have came from an enlarger as did my 105mm f4.5 but such Tominon lenses were also used in other devices for copying as well as more general photography.

Good point. The list, while extensive, only lists five of Minolta's (about) two dozen enlarging lenses -- and it leaves out the amazing Minolta ENLA-UNIT.
