I do own only the FX 103 Program (chrome) and the Yashica FR I SLR. I'm more into their ML lenses. But i'd like to have a TL Electro X Body. And Yashica Rangefinders seem to be very nice. I do like them since my teenage days.

These days I'm almost an all Contax guy and my collection is quite extensive now... Contax 139Q | 159MM | RTSIIIZeiss 18/4 | 25/2.8 | 28/2.8 | 50/1.4 | 85/1.4 | 135/2.8 | 300/4 | 28-85 | 80-200 And one Yashica - A Yashicamat 124G. Interesting to look back and see what's changed over 2 years. I have added a 35/2.8 PC-Distagon, 45/2.8, 50/1.7, 60/2.8c Makro-Planar, 180/2.8 Sonnar and a Mutar I. Both the 139 and the RTS III are gone, replaced with an Aria and a second 159MM, at the same time I no longer have a 50/1.4. I also have most of the accessories I need or want (e.g. W-1 hood, 70/86 Ring). The current set therefore reads; Contax 159MM |159MM & W-7| Aria Zeiss 18/4 | 25/2.8 | 35/2.8 PC | 45/2.8 | 50/1.7 | 60/2.8c | 85/1.4 | 135/2.8 | 180/2.8 | 300/4 | 28-85/3.3 | 80-200/4 | Mutar I At this point grid screens, hood caps (one K94 and a couple of K84s) and a replacement back for the tatty one on my Aria are the only real targets.

Hi barryreid,
You have a lovely, high quality collection of goodies there!
As you mention grid screens in the plural, I assume at least one is for a 159; do remember that if you can find screens for the 159, they can't be fitted at home.
If you are thinking of replacing the back on your Aria, why not go the whole hog and change it for the D-9? That way you get a straight back (no imprinting), a date or data back, and finally an intervalometer should you ever want time-lapse or remote use of your camera. Just a thought....

It's difficult to be certain from just identifying a 70-210 lens as Yashica made 8 different versions over several decades - it could be up to nearly 40 years old or much more recent. If you could tell us what is written on the bezel that surrounds the glass at the front of the lens, we might be able to give you a better idea.

Thanks biggles3, and it's only the beginning . I would add some contax cameras (159/st/aria..) and ML 1,2/55... I'm very pleased to see that, among others, you hope to add a ST to your delightful collection. I have always thought of it as the ultimate photographer's camera - no unnecessary gimmicks, just beautiful engineering and near perfect ergonomics. I always remember that Amateur Photographer here in the UK awarded it something very rare indeed: a perfect score - 5 stars in ever category; they could not find a single fault. And of course there's that lovely ceramic back-plate that we know from the RTSIII, though without the cost and complexity of the vacuum. Nowadays, it is very affordable so I hope you manage to get hold of one soon... When it comes to the 159MM, it is best to avoid those numbered 00**** - try for the ones that start 01 or 02 as some of the earlier ones had intermittent problems with their electronics.

HAhaaa, nope... My neighbour came at my door just now, with some mint Yashica stuff. The boxes even contained an empty Oreo tin :-)
So now I also have a FX-3 with dsb ( ssttt ) 55mm f2 and a dsb f4 70-210. All mint, like new. For little money.
Wish I came across an mint FR1 though.. I like the construction of the FR better....
We'l have to see which quality the dsb's represent. The zoom sure feels solid.

The FX-3 may not feel too solid, but it will certainly prove to be a most reliable companion on all your photo tours. It is often underestimated, which is a good thing for us buyers, as it sells really cheap on Ebay and other platforms. If you want more weight and metal to your Yashica, I would rather go for an FX-2 (or a Contax RTS) than the FR. cheers Michael

Same shutter.. Same feel to it... Well, I spend 42 cents on 8 LR 44 batteries today and found out the ligthmeter works. Next step is to check lightseals and mirror stop strip thinghy....... Who sells ready made replacement light seals? In comparison to the FR, the FX-3 does shake a lot more, when the mirror slaps against its stops... I hope to do a lot of handheld shots.... low light... Let's find out. So consensus exists that the FR(1) is an unreliable camera?? ( Framecounter, aperture readout / lightmeter ) Why didn't Yashica provide us with a decent 85mm? ( Apart from the Zeiss ones that is... )
